Hand-wringing, crying big baby tears, talking about how unfair it is -- all that doesn't do jack squat. It's actually much easier, because if we had all the levers taken away, we can't use any levers to try to mitigate this. No reason to go through anything emotional if the story is already written anyway.

So, what's actually going to happen? Your guess is as good as mine. Trump has a mandate. Dems were stripped of the effective ways to resist that, so now we don't have to resist. Might as well eat popcorn and work in the garden, or take your kids to a movie, or whatever.

Yes, of course we cared when we thought there was something we could do about it. I think that ended up being wrong anyway, and this was a foregone conclusion, but we were operating under the notion that it mattered.

It doesn't matter now. It might have, if Trump hadn't packed the SCOTUS with justices that actually ruled there is no check on executive power. Or maybe if we had enough majority in Senate or House to push things through, or deny him something, but people voted the other way for that, too.

So ... okay. So now we wait. No point getting excited about it -- that's just wasting what energy and time we have, and it doesn't matter anyway.

Sitting back is not an effective way to get what you want. I would start to take a look at 2026 and see if there are seats in Congress that can be flipped. How do we get a winning coalition to get out and vote?

The irony is that the media helped usher Trump back in because he's so good for clicks and eyeballs, and here we all are checking out. It feels good to retire from all this.

OP, I agree that this time around I will no longer freak out or worry and I also plan to sit back and enjoy the shitshow that is coming (because FAFO), but I am also going to focus on the next elections. As we pivot more to state rights, now more than ever we should all be paying more attention to our state politicians. In Virginia where I live, next year (November 2025) we will elect a Governor, Lt. Governor, and an AG. These positions can have a larger impact on our lives than those of politicians at the national level. AGs from blue states, for example, fought efforts to overturn the ACA. Don't just give up, OP. Get involved.

Yes! PA moms worked very hard in the state and now have a liberal Supreme Court of women who are fighting to protect women in the state.

Agree. But give them fewer eyeballs. Apple News is excellent for this. Dropped NYT and the Post. Rolling Stone has great political coverage.

The media made the exact same mistake it made in 2016. They didn't take Trump seriously but they thought they needed the election to be a horse race. And now they are shocked that he won and refuse to accept that they helped make it happen. BUTTEREMAILS!!!!

I canceled my newspaper subscription and have tuned out of the news and plan too well after the first of the year....
