My headspace for the next 4 years

I HONESTLY think many voters wanted to vote for the 'bad boy' but still have the Dems reign in the shit. You know like when you are a teen and make HORRIBLE choices knowing your parents will step in if needed but it lets you feel reckless and alive???
Well. Dems are stepping back and sitting down and when you crash, drunk, into a tree I won't be at the hospital to hold your hand and tell you its going to be ok.

Goodbye immigrants.
Goodbye Palestine
Goodbye Social Security
Goodbye America

My plan now is to just sit back and watch (sometimes with popcorn) - at least when I feel like tuning in. Since this is a DC based board I assume many of you, like me, understand and have concerns about the democratic norms he upends and the disruption he brings and you do not take our system of government for granted. But at this point it seems the American people - or about half of them - want this disruption.

My state of mind is to focus on what is right in front of me - family, friends and local community. I will watch with detached interest what public administration reforms, to put it lightly, these next 4 years will bring. What I won't do is freak out, get upset, or worry about every outrageous thing he says or does because in a way that is what drives his power. Plus, I don't want to.

Thoughts?

My sense is that there are many who feel the same way. What will be interesting is the MAGA troll response. The owning the libs thing is really 2020 and many have just moved on. It’s like MAGA is almost angry that Trump won and got all of congress. It will be difficult for them with no one to blame and with a lot fewer people throwing themselves into the breach.

For example, if he does another Muslim ban, I doubt people will turn out to the airports to protest and vocally stand up for the rights of Muslim Americans. Same if there’s another pandemic from China, the anti-Asian hate will not garner as much sympathy.

Since Muslims heavily voted for him (in Dearborn at least), I assume they are okay with Muslim bans. I'd have no reason to protest on behalf of people who voted for such things.

Yes. But the groups who will mostly be impacted voted for him. We were told that we are condescending to try and help, warn, prevent. So. There it is.

You are not wrong. But it's not like doing something else will have any effect, not on the bigger picture.

We can fight smaller local battles, but whether people burn themselves to a crisp or not trying to change the big picture, it is what it is, and people voted. That's what this country is, now.

Op,

This is exactly how I feel.

"What I won't do is freak out, get upset, or worry about every outrageous thing he says or does because in a way that is what drives his power."

I'm definitely NOT going to tune into his outrageous comments. He doesn't do most of what he says, and he accomplishes way less than he threatens to do.

In a way, the media (controlled by rich people) made Trump because they suppress his dementia-like behaviors while calling Biden too old and unhealthy. Trump is a master at controlling the press, who he threatens to shoot. They want the eyeballs and attention, and I won't be giving that to them this time.

I hear what others are saying about MAGA still being so angry, unhappy, depressed, and did I say angry? What will they be angry about now? Why aren't they dancing in the streets?

Why does no one seem to be celebrating??

AND its started already right?

Those who voted FOR THIS MAN will now complain and blame the Dems for NOT DOING MORE TO STOP IT.

Dems will be villainized once again. I'm over it.
I told my grandma about his plans for SS
I told my cousin who is married to an immigrant about his plans
I told my aunt about the economy
I told my mom about women's health issues

I talked to everyone until i was blue in the face and you know what? THey still voted for him. Facts didn't matter. Truth didn't matter.
Well, now it is all WHAT will we do to reign him in???
I don't know? Nothing? Sorry Margo but this ship has sailed and i am enjoying a pina colada right now. You figure your own shit out.

Celebrate what? Most of them are about to get screwed over.

As with anything in life, sometimes bad situations have to get a lot worse before they get better.

MAGA is offering an alternative view of America: isolationist, less welcoming of immigrants, less tolerant, more backward looking, just more "America First" (as if America already doesn't come first in the world given its great economy and military might). Let people try that out for a while and see if they like it. I suspect that they're not going to like all of it, even if they like some of it.
