You are incorrect. Australia only sends asylum seekers who arrive by BOAT to Nauru and the policy is that they will not be resettled in Australia if their asylum claims are approved. Australia seeks to return them or resettle them in other countries. No other illegal immigrants are sent to the camps. The vast majority of illegal immigrants are people who overstay student or other temporary visas. At its peak, the camp in Nauru had 1,233 detainees. Australia also sent boat arrivals to a processing camp in PNG which has closed. At its peak, it had 1,350 people, some of whom were there for 10 years. Australia’s policy specifically aimed to deter people arriving by boat. The numbers are tiny compared to the numbers here. This policy has cost over $500,000 per detainee. |
No they don’t. My DH used to joke about it taking an act of Congress to take his citizenship away. We don’t think that’s such a far stretch anymore. Now he’s made sure all of our passports are in order and we have copies of his paperwork, including his DD-214, in more than one location. He’s been told by past coworkers that assumed he sought their approval that he’s “one of the good ones”. Maybe they will shield him if things get out of hand. Hopefully we never have to deal with some vigilante going off doing the lord’s work and taking matters into their own hands. |
Immigration status is not important. But you must provide extensive proof that you reside in the district. School is not free. |
HELLO!? Where are they going to get the baots from? This is supposed to be a thread about the logistics! |
Australia probably finds it cheaper than educating and feeding all the “asylum seekers” |
Genius if you ask me! There will be a few small problems with the law though |
It’s their citizen kids who get them. |
Honestly there should be no citizenship for children whose parents are illegal |
There’s nothing wrong with carrying an ID that shows legal status |
Schools don’t ask for papers proving legal status |
Like the guy who shot Trump did? |
SSI: you can only get it as a non citizen if you are a refugee. Refugees get green cards (become legal permanent residents) and then get SSI if they are over 65. No immigration status - no SSI. Medicaid - I believe only one state gives their state version of Medicaid to people regardless of their immigration status. It’s CA. Source: I research this for work |
Nobody is asked to provide proof of immigration status. No one. |
Schools don’t check. If they wanted to, they would. It’s just that most people know they won’t get another visa if they are caught sending kids to public schools. Those who have broken the immigration law just don’t care anymore. |
As a white immigrant I wouldn’t be so sure. I’ve personally suffered in his first term due to the long wait and additional interviews USCIS introduced. Trump will be bad for many legal immigrants, I am sure. |
