pit bull on a plane

I can empathize with your love of animals, but when you choose to accept and propagate misinformation that can get people killed out of some well-intended but fundamentally flawed campaign to exonerate these animals, you've gone too far. Pitbulls account for the vast majority of dog attacks and 2 of 3 dogbite deaths in the U.S. every year. If I ever see you telling my kids that pitbulls are safe, I am going to kick your ass.

+1 These are not safe animals. And I love dogs. To the pit-defenders, please just stop. Our family will never be the same after nearly losing our dog to an unprovoked pit attack. I’d be requesting a seat change and refund immediately.

Was your dog unleashed?

At the end of a flight, over a dog that you didn't even realize was there?

You are the problem.

I don’t think you can get a seat change when the flight is over and you are deplaning.

One of our neighbors has a pit bull that they adopted.
They have a metal collar on the dog when they walk the dog as it is so aggressive.

The dog lunges at me aggressively when I am out. I avoid them when they are walking. There is no doubt I would be attacked if the dog got away from the owners.

My neighbor's rottie does the same thing.

Obviously the same thing as a pitbull so well behaved that OP didn't even know it was there.

https://www.lifewithdogs.tv/why-do-pit-bulls-snap/

Those two articles are about why pit bulls snap, meaning bite at the air as a warning. A dog who snaps in that sense doesn't make contact, they are trying to scare you away because they are overwhelmed by something.

A dog that snaps like that shouldn't be in the passenger cabin of a plane, or be working as a service dog. But the answer to what you do when a dog that isn't yours snaps at you, is "move away".

OP seems to be using the word "snaps" in the same way that the PP above used "psychotic break" to mean something different.

Well, if a dog “snaps” at you on a plane, you can’t move away.

Since OP and her child weren't seated in the same row as the dog, they could go back to their seat and get out of the dog's space.

The dog could reach us from under the seat.

No it could not. Unless it was the size of pp's yorkie, he's not getting under the seat

Have you never been on a plane or something?

Yes, have you ever seen a pitbull? They don't fit under the seat and could not "attack" OP from behind. She wouldn't have even noticed if they hadn't turned around when the plane landed. Clearly it wasn't a big deal for the entirety of the flight.

I wouldn’t want to be in a crowded aisle with a pitbull behind me.

Same. I genuinely feel like pit bull owners take pleasure in making people scared or uncomfortable.

When all it takes to do this is existing, sure. I take pleasure in existing and minding my own damn business. If that scares you, it's a you problem.

It just seems weird to think: I want a dog..I know, I’m going to buy that kind that’s always in the news for killing small children and is banned in many countries and cities.

I have to think the owners enjoy making people uncomfortable. It’s a personality type for sure!

You... believe the news? About dogs? I barely believe the news about anything, especially not things that generate clickbait revenue.

If you want to drink the kool-aid, go ahead. And if it makes you more likely to leave me and mine alone, so much the better. I don't want to have to deal with your delusions; just let me mind my business in peace. Be as scared as you need to be to leave me alone!

I don’t have to believe the news, I have one friend’s dog who was killed by a pit and two other friends who have been attacked by pits, all totally unprovoked No thank you. I don’t trust them.

You do understand that past performance is not indication of the future, right? There are only two types of dogs in these violent breeds...those who have snapped and those who will.

Look, I don't care if you want to risk YOUR child's life by having them around. You want that PTSD of blood and tissue everywhere? Cool, cool. You have ZERO right to expose others to your poor decision-making.

Here is an example of a "pit bull" who did nothing and you haters are still spouting hate.

Just saw this. So you are going to be more aggressive than a pit bull then. And guess what? I would sue the hell out of you and have you thrown in jail.

Huh? Who are you suing? The disabled person with a service dog? The airline following ADA?

Fun fact. The ADA doesn't apply on airplanes. The ACAA does.

Except you wouldn't have noticed until after the flight concluded. You want a refund for a flight you already took, and didnt even notice the super scary dangerous throat ripper? You'd get laughed all the way to a hang up LOL

The ACAA prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. So everyone wanting a "refund" for having to sit near someone with a disability is just a jerkoff.

I don't have a pitbull, have no friends with pitbulls, and have scars on my arm from being bit by a dog as a kid (not a Pitbull). But you have to admit some of you are coming off as completely unhinged. This dog was well behaved and OP didn't even know it was there. She's freaking out after the fact. She asked what to do in the future. The answer is ask to move seats or get off the plane. Freaking out, demanding a refund, going on and on about how they are irresponsible and dangerous is not going to get the dog kicked off the plane.

Do those saying they would demand a refund, on what grounds? That you didn't like a breed of dog on the plane? I'm not a fan of pitbulls and wouldn't let my kids around them. But this whole...."I'd demand a refund" seems a little unrealistic.

Ever seen someone behave similarly by refusing to sit next to a person of a different race, or wearing religious clothing? Because I have.

As mentioned upthread, the overlap here is essentially full.

Thank you for being sane about the insane posts and their non-logic.
