pit bull on a plane

Anonymous
There was a pit bull behind my young child and me on a regional jet last week. I didn't realize until we deplaned, but it got me wondering what would have happened had it snapped in a small, enclosed space. Any advice in case this happens in the future? I was rather shocked Delta allowed it.

Wait nothing happened and you are still upset? Wow! Do you always judge people the same way? I mean the plane could have crashed. Would you say "hey the plane landed ok this time" but what about next time?

Nothing for you to do if nothing happened! You didn't even notice the dog!

Good dog! Bad op.

"Why are the "pit bull haters' so hysterical?"

Because these dogs kill numerous people and pets every year. There is no need for them to exist.

Pit bull attacks are far more common than FAR 121 accidents. The last fatal airline crash was in 2009. Why would you worry about a plane crash?

So you didnt even notice, but now you want to freak out? Take a chill pill. It's a dog. It sat behind you. You were fine. Everyone else was fine. Get over yourself.

WTF are you talking about? Do you work for boeing or something?

Sorry, meant in the US.

I thought dogs were required to be in cages on planes? At least when I've flown with my 7lb dog he was in a cage under the seat the entire time.

I'd rather sit next to the dog than like 90% of people on airplanes.

So a dog was so well behaved you didn't even notice it was on the plane and you're still upset? I acknowledge the problem with pitbulls and I've been bitten by a dog hard enough to need stitches (not a pitbull). In the future, you can ask the flight attendant to move your seat or you can deplane. Dogs, even pitbulls, are not going to suddenly leap over the seat or run down the aisle to attack someone. I do understand not wanting to sit next to a dog though.

Do you know how many pitbull and pit mixes there are in this country? 18 million.
Do you know how many fatal attacks there are? About 50 every year.
About two thirds of attacks target the owner or their family.

Pitbulls were bred to have enormous jaw strength and a tenacious temperament that will lead them to hang on. Those are facts. However, they are not more aggressive in their genetic make-up than other breeds.

Given the statistics, your anxiety is unreasonable. Fear of pitbulls in general is irrational.

- I'm a foster for a local rescue, specializing in newborn puppies. The hardest litter to train was a terrier mix. The easiest was a pit mix: they were docile and gentle.

What’s wrong with you?

I'm tired of these ridiculous anti-pit bull posts about things that didn't even happen.

What if a dog I didn't notice had chosen to attack me?!

Lady, what if your aunt had balls? She'd be your uncle. Get over it.

The most dangerous animal on the plane is a human. What are you going to do if one attack you?

Yes, and also good luck making that point to some of the irrational anti-pit posters here.

In the past couple months I've flown next to two well behaved dogs (German shepherd and some kind of medium sized mixed breed). I don't know if they were ESAs or service animals (though neither had a vest on).
