Why do women do so well compared to men post divorce?

So true. Even my kids have commented that it looks like he just wanted a do-over. Better luck next time, I guess.

He's an amazing catch, makes a ton of money and is easy on the eyes so I'm not surprised. It sucks but it's the truth if I am being honest with the situation. I am stressed, tired and running around between, work and kid stuff. It has all aged me. Not to mention the trauma the actual divorce caused too.

Why is he your ex then?

What, why? Half of women earn at least 40% of their HHI.

And the other 1/2 earn 0. It's the SAHMs that don't have family $ that usually sink below their former standard of living.

Yeah. Know a few gunning for exit affairs that went belly up, got caught, got served and now middle aged thrown into the working world they haven’t been a part of for 20 years.

My son's best frend's mom is one of them. Hadn't worked since he was born 17 years ago. She screwed another dad (single) in our kid's circle of friends and her husband found out. Dropped her like a hot potato. She went from being basically retired, living in a huge house in Old Town, married to a decent enough guy making about 400k to working as a K prep assiatant and living in a shitty one bed apartment on Duke street

I'm pretty sure the affair wasn't worth it.

Former neighbor- similar. Husband dumped her after finding out about affairs. Had to sell the dream home and move into a crappy rental apartment in Rockville. Working a job 20-somethings do as a side hobby, not middle aged people as a primary source of income.

This is what usually happens to women who have affairs in Virginia since the affair is technically a crime and the judge will rule you can't have alimony because you spread your legs to another man like a filthy slut for some, you know, boom boom boom.

Sounds like me.

I am definitely not doing better by any yardstick. On some level, I’m pretty envious of XH who seems to have started fresh, as if we (his own kids and their mother) never existed at all. I’m firmly in the never again camp. My kids come first. It’s also easy to say “never again” when you know there isn’t much demand for 50+ moms with younger kids.

See this a lot at work, our private school, and our neighborhood.
The ex husband goes off to travel, date, exercise, and forget about their kids beyond a weekly dinner and some Disney dad vacations. Those must be so forced and awkward, but I guess the money flying around makes it work.

True; both when in and out of marriages. They ain’t worrying about nor planning a thing for anyone but themselves.

Alimony is pretty limited everywhere these days. They might get it a few years to get on their feet--get a job, but is usually not a 'lifetime, welfare' situation.

I think women are just more socially adept and connected. Their networks serve them well.
