We know a few kids that got into an Ivy and rejected from Georgetown. Quite a few of friends at UVA that were rejected from GU.

GU is a very hard admit, especially around here. I think our public HS had only 1 admit last year.

You have to remember- USNWR cites an 11% acceptance rate, but GU is not on common app, it REQUIRES standardized testing and every sitting, there are 4 essays, an interview is required and they like to see AP exam scores. SO--that is why they don't drive up application numbers to get a falsely lower admit rate.

It's likely more like a 7% admit rate.

requiring tests makes their median a lot lower than top 20 schools. My kid's score was 1520 and felt confident sending that score to Georgetown. Not so much other colleges.

And YET it's not that much lower. This is equally impressive since EVERYONE --even those let in on a hook or need that have low scores have to submit and are included in the reported averages. These other schools have about 40-50% submitting and only those with the highest scores are submitting which has caused those averages to falsely inflate.

Not sure why you need to disqualify our experience. But whatever.
ND sat scores are 1410 (25%) to 1540 (75%). 72% submit sat. ACT is 32 (25%) to 35 (75%). 36%
Those numbers make a 1500 very easy to submit. Even a 1460. Which is 100% not the case with any T20 college.

NP. People who get caught up on this probably aren't a fit for Notre Dame anyway, so it's mute.

Sorry, correction. Those are Georgetown's numbers.

My kid didn't apply to ND, but I think it's a great school and I have no beef with it, unlike some of you.

It’s really silly to argue over which school is more selective. Both are crap shoots even for the best students.

Notre Dame scores before being TO were still just as high as they are currently with TO.

2019-20
ACT was 32-35
SAT was 1400-1550

2022-23
Exact same scores

Agree. Oh to actually have the option of either school...

Georgetown people seem really to dug in on the idea that it is the better school. ROW, including NDers, don't seem to be as invested in this fight.

nonono. the ND people on this board are obsessed! Except for the Georgetown person who has to post in every single thread about all tests having to be submitted.

From Notre Dame's Admission website: "A student applying Restrictive Early Action to Notre Dame may apply to other Early Action programs at either private or public colleges or universities."

Oh, and here is Georgetown's:

"If I apply to Georgetown under Early Action can I still apply to other schools under Early Action program?
Georgetown gives students the option to apply both under our Early Action program and under other schools’ Early Action programs. Please be sure to research the guidelines of all schools to which you are applying; not all Early Action programs will allow multiple Early Action applications."

+1 Georgetown is much more regional. Notre Dame is one of the few schools that is a truly national student body.

Yet, when you attend there, it really FEELS Midwestern. That is the predominant setting that you really cannot get around. So be prepared if you go.

— ND grad

Never thought I would like midwestern, until I was exposed to it when my daughter attended. It is quite warm, inclusive, and collaborative sense of community. Vs. DC's cutthroat, cold, and disjointed environment.

I was an RA. You would be surprised how many students from other regions get caught emotionally blindsided by the weather, the seasonal affect, the flat-ness, the cold, the lake-effect, the inability to do other things, once football season ends. These kids are 17-18 when they make their decisions; they do not know what they do not know It is a looooong winter in South Bend, folks. If you take away the “Ra-ra, this is Notre Dame,” would you want to live in this region? Do you /your child fit in there? This is what you /applicant should ask yourself — every “name” university loses its luster after you have been admitted and lived there for a while. Do you like that area in and if itself?

I dont think you ever went to ND.

I mean, it's colder than Texas but it's not killer winter and not especially long. Kids stop wearing coats in March (average highs 47)

Seasonable affect? It's not especially north. There's more lake effect in Syracuse.

The inability to do other things? lolz

They said they were an RA. South Bend is COLD.

Well, actually it's a bit more complicated than that, but that's an interesting REA because REAs usually say "no other privates". For example, DD applied SCEAa to Princeton and was allowed to only apply to other publics . https://admissions.nd.edu/apply/early-action-regular-decision/
