Notre Dame or Georgetown

Georgetown is objectively the most prestigious school, but the goal is the best fit, so if your child prefers ND, that's perfectly fine.

That's actually not true anymore. Maybe thirty years ago. Notre Dame definitely has more cachet than Georgetown now.

False. ND has REA; it does not have EA. Georgetown has EA

Not quite. Both have REA. GU calls it EA, but they both have exactly the same restriction, you cannot apply to any ED programs. BC used to have the same, so students could apply EA to all. Now there are not many others. MIT has straight EA without restrictions, so a student can apply REA to GU and ND and EA to MIT. It would be nice if there were more.

you don't understand what REA is.

20% choose GT

ND is much more conservative. Jesuits are different.

Not sure why this keeps being perpetuated. ND is somewhat left of center (which might be slightly right of some universities). Biden won easily among students. There is a wide range of political views.

Probably because of Amy.

Are you sure that you know what "objectively" means?

It is the most selective of the two; it selects mostly on academic achievement; and it has an extremely strong reputation in foreign affairs (primarily), but also business and medical sciences.

'Objectively' ND is higher ranked by the de facto industry standard college ranking.
You can at least use 'objectively' in this context.

ND is the preferred option out of our nyc HS. Unless you want that foreign service route. I think the business school at ND is better and overall college experience is better

Nope.

Any insights on the schools from people who have kids there now. Things besides academics as both are great in that regard. Thank you.

Both are great choices. As you say, she'll get a great education at either one. ND is much more overtly Catholic (parietals and single sex dorms), and some people call it "Catholic Disneyland." Personally, I prefer the more nuanced Jesuit Catholicism of Georgetown to the slightly more didactic Holy Cross Catholicism of Notre Dame. Georgetown is much more diverse and has more international students. The locations are quite different. There's more to do in D.C. than in South Bend, and it's probably easier to get internships in D.C., but ND has a beautiful campus. ND also has a better football team. Hoyas wear blue and grey; the Fighting Irish wear blue and Kelly green. Great options, so it's a tough choice.

OP, does your child have a “hook”?

cmon folks - no one in their right mind would choose Georgetown over ND. Exception being if career interest is FS, but everything else ND by a country mile..

Ridiculous. In our immediate circle of family and friends, one kid transferred from ND to GT this year. Another 4 kids are applying to GT. One kid is applying to both ND & GT (and 5 are applying to Boston College but not GT or ND).

Seriously? Nope. Big East all the way. Jesuit traditions.
