MIT!!! Who is running these (very expensive) classes?? This is not the town square!
Well, all these schools are sending a message loud and clear. I’m not Jewish but if this is how things are run, I’m not interested. |
Oh my God. That is horrible. What’s awful is that I suspect there are administrators who entirely agree with the sentiment. |
Yeah, I’m not Jewish but sent a note to the alumni organization of my school because the administrators seem fine with overt threats to Jewish students. I’m not talking about a Palestinian flag, I’m talking about explicit threats. I’m not supporting that nonsense. |
What’s incredible is there a sizable Palestinian community in Rockville as well. It’s wild how even in the US they end up living side by side. |
I thought he was Palestinian by his accent and look. I was shocked that he called himself white. That’s some delusion |
| Oh look Bill Ackerman, a white dude, is critiquing a brown/black man for supporting the human rights of Muslims and attempting to dox him. Billionaire vs student. What a jerk. |
What the guy said was obviously atrocious, but I'm pretty sure that he said "because we are right" not "white". |
Good grief. Does *everything* boil down to race with you? This is about an obnoxious protestor (or two or three) interrupting a class to spout their hate. This is nothing more than a performative disruption that prevents students from doing what they went to college to do - learn. |
Oh. That makes much more sense. The misinformation that spreads on both sides! |
I’m commenting with good intentions. I promise! When I watch the video, I see a student patiently waiting for his turn to speak. His words are not antisemitic. I don’t love the chanting afterwards or the fact that the professor allowed the announcement in class. But the kids comments in the class is not what I would call “spouting hate”. |

The math classroom is not the place for promoting individual political views! What will these universities do next - devote 30 minutes of each class to unrelated individual promotion - bring your flags, your drums, have a dance party and promote your next event! Sorry but the (again, very expensive) classroom with limited time has a structure - one which has been well thought out by many professionals to present learning of very specific material.
For all I’ve heard about safe spaces in recent years (Demands for safe spaces), the classroom as a safe space for learning (math!) I should think would be such a space! For “ALL” we say - do we really mean that, or not? |
Yes. I totally agree. I totally denounce politicizing the classroom. But the words that the student said did not in and of themselves “spew hate”. |
