Wanted to separate this out from the Gaza thread.

A Muslim Arab student was hit by a car in a hit and run on Friday in California. Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office has called it a hate crime. Injuries were not life threatening.

I was just reading that. In case others haven’t seen it, I copied a blurb below. I am struck by his response.

Police are investigating a hate crime after a Stanford University student was allegedly struck in a hit-and-run. Abdulwahab Omira, who is Arab Muslim, told officials that the driver, a white man in his mid-20s, made eye contact and shouted abuse as he accelerated towards him in a Toyota 4Runner. "This ordeal has solidified my resolve to advocate for love, understanding, and inclusivity,” Omira wrote in a statement from the hospital.

October 27, 2023: Man Charged With Threatening to Kill Jewish Family in Racially-Motivated Attack in Los Angeles

Daniel Garcia (dob 10/26/79) is charged in case LA100208 with three felony counts including one count of criminal threats; one count of attempted first-degree residential burglary; and one count of vandalism $400 or more in damage or destruction or property.

It is further alleged that Garcia committed hate crimes in violation of Penal Code Section 422.75.

Garcia is scheduled to be arraigned today in Dept. 100 of the Van Nuys Courthouse.

On October 25, 2023 at approximately 5:20 in the morning, Garcia attempted to enter the victim’s home by kicking in the door while shouting antisemitic slurs and threatening to, “kill Jews!”

Garcia is currently held on $125,000 bail.

If convicted as charged, Garcia will face a maximum sentence of seven years and four months in state prison.

This woman was upset after watching news coverage of the Gaza war and decided to attack what she thought was an "Israel school" because it had a Star of David in front of it. So, he drove her car into the building. But, it turned out that the building is actually used by Black Hebrew Israelites, who the ADL and other groups consider to be an antisemitic hate group.

I think DCUM is providing a platform for people to argue in a way that is really unhealthy for our community. If you locked the political section for day it would wonder. I myself have said things in a knee jerk reaction to other hateful comments by users that I have instantly regretted. Please lock it down so we can all take a break and spend time with our neighbors.

Oh god, not again. Sikhs were targeted and killed after 9/11 as well, Americans think all Muslims wear turbans. In the U.S I guess not a single Muslim person wears a turban.

All kinds of bigotry and lashing out is stupid, but there are rainbow bursts of stupidity with people attacking Sikhs.

And I agree with the other PP that if Trump gets back in, it’s going to be like the mid 1930s Germany of violence towards Jewish people and Muslims.

INDIANAPOLIS (WLS) -- A woman intentionally crashed her car into what she thought was a Jewish school because she was angry about the Israel-Hamas war, Indianapolis police said.

Indianapolis police said the responded to the crash on Friday at about 11:30 p.m. When they arrived, Ruba Almaghtheh, 34, told officers she had been watching the news and "couldn't breathe anymore," and referenced the Palestinian people.

Police said she had passed the Israelite School of Universal and Practical Knowledge several times, calling it the "Israel school," and told officers, "Yes, I did it on purpose."

Police said that people were in the building at the time of the crash, but no one was injured.

However, the building Almaghtheh crashed into is not, in fact, a Jewish school. The Anti-Defamation League says the Israelite School of Universal and Practical Knowledge is in fact an extremist organization that is anti-Israel and antisemitic.

? How can a group called "Black Hebrew Israelites" be considered an anti-semitic hate group? That seems like an oxymoron.
