DC Public and Public Charter Schools
| Unfortunately all of these claims are true. And there is so much more to come. The teachers of Payne and parents of Payne should feel free to add their grievances to the long list that has accumulated about the Eaton Principal. This is for the good of all kids in DCPS. One schools issues affect everyone as bad Principals are moved from one school to the next. |
| What has the response from the Chancellor and central office been? |

Reality check: no principal will want to work here now.
More than likely they will promote an inexperienced teacher as the school leader when replacing/demoting/shifting Eskay. Watch. |
It's a risk. Oh, well. What were they supposed to do -- ignore that the principal was demeaning of and mocked teachers, children, and parents? There was no other responsible choice than to speak up. |
No principal would want to work with a solid team of incredibly professional, hard-working teachers and staff that stand by the children and support them 1000% and basically run the entire school when times are hard? Interesting. I would think anyone would jump at the chance to be a part of such an impressive team. |
NP but PP is totally correct. This school will now be deemed troublemakers and DCPS will give you crappy candidates to pick from and the best candidates will self-select out anyway. 100% of teachers supported X = super hard school to be an outsider principal at and you’re crazy if you think otherwise. |
Not my take at all. Happy to be apart of a community where my children’s teachers advocate for themselves and know the power of collective voice. |
Well, if the "best candidates" are ones that self-select out of a school where mean and petty behavior among adults is not tolerated, so be it. DCPS needs to figure out how to attract better principals. Being negative towards teachers and families for protesting against horrible principals is a path to doom. |
To be clear, I’m not saying that I wouldn’t be happy to be there as a parent. I’m saying that very few potential principals are going to be like “yay, let me go to a school that came together to drive out it’s brand new external principal.” A strong, cohesive group of teachers who know their rights and stand up for themselves is a challenging school to principal, especially as an outsider. My kids are at a school that has had an issue with precisely this. Coming out of COVID where principals were in a particularly difficult position, our (excellent, long term, dedicated) teachers ate several principals in a row alive. |
| So has this guy been canned yet, or what? |
I spent the start of my teaching career in charters. Now that I’m in DCPS I understand these often talked-about politics around admin and staff in district schools and I find it disappointing (I do not support charters over public, I’m simply pointing out a difference in culture that is created when principals don’t have as much perceived control as they do in district schools). Principals were apart of the body in my old schools. They led the body but they are not separate. To me it fostered a pipeline of folks excited to lead in ways that empower vs a pipeline of folks hungry for power. |

So sad that DCPS would want a principal that is no more than the worse bully in the school at one of its top performing schools. DCPS=sad state (oops I mean district) of affairs.
|
| Wait, he is STILL there. It must be nice for him to hear his praises paraded through public. I'm excited for the next school who gets to learn the DCPS basics of principaling from him. How to berate teachers 101. How to get rid of your entire behavioral health team in under 10 seconds AP Course. How to make fun of LGBTQ+, black, hispanic kids and differently abled kids. Wait, lets throw in ELL as a bonus. |
