It is. It's so dangerous. I know several folks in their 80s, whom I love to death, who've been brainwashed especially in recent years by Fox news running all day in their home and are terrified of people of color. It's heartbreaking and dangerous. Everyone needs to turn their tvs off, regardless of political affiliation. It's too much extremism all the time and not healthy for anyone at a minimum, life threatening at worst.

Yeah, my aunt who lived in Philly and NYC during the 70s, 80s, and 90s is now living in a suburb and super paranoid about crime. I live in a working class city neighborhood and I would say it's the same as it's been for the past 10 years and so much better than the 90s/early 2000s.

The difference is that today we have cell phones, cameras, social media, instant sharing of news/photos/messages. Thanks to technology, these racist scumbags can’t hide anymore.

It’s worse now than it’s ever been before here.

It's mental health - whether it's an egotistical power-hungry cop, a trigger-happy paranoid neighbor, a vengeful former employee (or for student) who holds grudges against an old boss (or old principal) and coworkers, or rival gangs seeking revenge bc they have too much pride to let "it" go.

I can’t figure out how to share his picture, but here is the link.

If ever there was a poster child for gun control, this guy is it. He looks like he could barely operate a spoon into his pudding and we let him have a gun?! There should be licensing/tests to own a gun, especially after a certain age.

I also thought it’s pure racism (along the Aubrey case) until I found that it’s an 85 year old guy. It’s racism but also gun availability. Why, why does an 85 year old, living in an urban area (he’s not living alone in a cabin in the woods to justify owning a gun), need a gun? How come he can keep a gun? He will die in prison, but that does not help the child who was shot, and doesn’t prevent other incidents where people who should have no access to guns do have them. There will always be someone who’s racist, or who is suicidal, or who holds a grudge against the world for perceived real or imagined injustices. Gun ownership should not be this easy! There should be real checks. If I need to renew my driver’s license every 5-8 years, why should a gun owner not have to do the same?

Dementia causes changes in personality including confusion, anxiety, and anger.

Just as we take car keys away from seniors who should no longer be driving, we need to take guns away from seniors too.

There actually aren't any laws that directly support this.

We = loving family members (and sometimes failed driving tests)

But not every senior has family members who are involved in their lives.

I agree. I’ve also noticed right-wing media’s doom and gloom propaganda. They’re trying to blame increased crime on Biden/Dems and show them as being “soft on crime.”

The media, even Fox, actually down play urban crime. Pretty much every media site disabled comments because of people talking about crime. You have to get pretty far from what is considered respectable media to see what is really going on. The Loop attack from Saturday for instance: https://cwbchicago.com/2023/04/video-chicago-large-group-woman-attacked-cta-bus-driver-punched.html Fox isn't going to be playing that video on repeat or even following up to see what happened to that young woman.
