There are people that see him as the only viable option. And being on a school board in this day and age is a thankless job, so the competition is light.

Based on what I've seen in posted videos, Reid's endorsement isn't going to age well. But the Stockton endorsement is a real coup for MT.

Goldstein's endorsement isn't going to move the needle, but no one knows or cares who Stockton is either. So, it's a wash.

What do you mean? Know one in ACDC knows who he is? I agree with that and they are the most likely voters. But I think any involved APS parent or staff knows who Stockton is and they are also likely voters (staff who live in Arlington, that is). I've already heard from people who were surprised by it. Otherwise I agree with you on ACDC. It's telling that Miranda has lined up alot of supporters who carry weight in ACDC and AC doesn't even seem to have support from Young Dems.

I'm a "very involved" parent/voter and I've never heard of him.

Reid's endorsement may not influence much, but it's more relevant than some random staff's endorsement.

Reid saw the impact of Miranda's group on the community.

With Reid’s endorsement more parents and others will take Angelo seriously. I’d say he has decent odds, despite his youth, inexperience, and cockiness. Let’s not forget that both FCPS and MCPS have voting student school board members. Angelo can bring a unique perspective to the board.

A positive, fresh perspective is a plus.

Exactly how fresh is that perspective when the outgoing chair endorses it? And when the ACDC big wigs specifically intervene to keep him from quitting the race? When the powers-that-be do everything they can to keep a failing campaign on life support, I don't think it's because that person is offering a "fresh perspective." It's because they view that person as safe and controllable.

Which isn't to say that Angelo is a puppet. He may be quite sincere. In the words of Noam Chomsky: "I'm sure you believe everything you're saying. But what I'm saying is that if you believed something different you wouldn't be sitting where you're sitting."

If he believes that teachers, staff, and parents should be treated with respect and is capable of constructive conversations, then he gets my vote.

MOVE. ON!

That is exactly what we are trying to do - bring on fresh perspective.

Are you kidding? No one knows who Stockton is, or cares about a rando from Maryland.

But keep trying to pretend it's a bigger deal than an endorsement from the current board chair. When are you people going to start taking Angelo seriously?

Brian Stockton was with APS. He's not a rando MoCo guy.

And he was the CoS during the pandemic. It's impressive he endorsed her since posters here assume everyone in APS hates her. Apparently not.

Indeed! Miranda's perspective will be a welcomed relief from the mind-hive that has and is the SB now.
Your little Angelo is not a fresh perspective - he's the same perspective inside a more youthful shell. And I do mean "shell." If he were a little smarter, I'd be convinced he's actually an AI-generated being.

The people I know who are most keyed in definitely know who stockton is, had relationships with him and are definitely shocked about this endorsement. Good for her for getting it.

The guy who was briefly at APS during the pandemic and is already long gone isn't really representative of people from APS.

he's positively inexperienced and ignorant.

He just spent the last 16+ years in an educational environment. I think he has experience - it's just a different perspective.

Does that perspective include signing up for the APS School Health Advisory Board and then missing half the meetings?

Agreed! I'm glad to see he wasn't really part of the closed-school cabal that Duran spearheaded. This is an important endorsement for Miranda showing that Stockton is in favor of a fresh approach that puts learning excellence back at the center of education and gets us away from all COVID-fear and fluffy diversity and inclusion initiatives.

So Miranda is against diversity and inclusion initiatives?

OK, I really don't get this. He is qualified *JUST* because he is young? I have older teens, doesn't that also give me a unique perspective? Just being young is not a qualification. This is madness. I want a real grown-up for this job please.

And for the record, I was a GREAT 22-yr old. I remember being 22. I was early in my career and doing well, but I was still largely a complete idiot with no perspective on the world and how it worked. He's not even from here and has lived her for a half second. Why is that useful? You could pull any rando off the street if that's all the quals you want.

He's a) young and b) politically active. That's not enough.

Give me anyone who just graduated from APS then, and still has family and younger siblings here.

Angelo comes off as extremely narrow minded and narrow focused, only drawing from his own school experience which was elsewhere and is irrelevant for APS.

He also hasn’t lead a group of disgruntled, abusive parents. So that’s a plus.
