I pay attention to APS, and I don't know the current chief of staff, Brian Stockton or any other former chief of staffs. Do you really think most "involved" parents know? I do not. I bet it's less than 1%. I'm sure I've seen the current one/Brian Stockton at SB meetings, which I watch sometimes, but I never pay any attention to to them and so it's not remotely relevant. I don't care about Reid's endorsement at all as he's totally irrelevant, but I at least know who he is. |
A positive, fresh perspective is a plus. |
DP. Not invested in either campaign. The only connection he has to Arlington is Arl Dems and he has not made friends there. There is a reason why no Dems other than Reid have endorsed him yet and AC has 0 interest in serving APS or working well with others. I like Reid and this endorsement is a bad look for him. I wish we had other candidates to choose from and saw that Erin raised almost $5k before she dropped out. She probably would have walked away with it if she had stayed in. But I'll probably vote for Miranda who seems to be winning over a wide range of people. |
Exactly how fresh is that perspective when the outgoing chair endorses it? And when the ACDC big wigs specifically intervene to keep him from quitting the race? When the powers-that-be do everything they can to keep a failing campaign on life support, I don't think it's because that person is offering a "fresh perspective." It's because they view that person as safe and controllable. Which isn't to say that Angelo is a puppet. He may be quite sincere. In the words of Noam Chomsky: "I'm sure you believe everything you're saying. But what I'm saying is that if you believed something different you wouldn't be sitting where you're sitting." |

he's positively inexperienced and ignorant. |
OK, I really don't get this. He is qualified *JUST* because he is young? I have older teens, doesn't that also give me a unique perspective? Just being young is not a qualification. This is madness. I want a real grown-up for this job please. And for the record, I was a GREAT 22-yr old. I remember being 22. I was early in my career and doing well, but I was still largely a complete idiot with no perspective on the world and how it worked. He's not even from here and has lived her for a half second. Why is that useful? You could pull any rando off the street if that's all the quals you want. He's a) young and b) politically active. That's not enough. |
Thank you. This shouldn’t be that controversial. |
If he believes that teachers, staff, and parents should be treated with respect and is capable of constructive conversations, then he gets my vote. |
He just spent the last 16+ years in an educational environment. I think he has experience - it's just a different perspective. |
Brian Stockton was with APS. He's not a rando MoCo guy. |
That's why this action is so reckless. APS has a student advisory board that meets regularly with SB members. Sticking a student on the SB would merely be symbolic, not substantive. This 22 y/o doesn't have any more insight into how to solve a youth mental health crisis than any other older adult. His ideas are the same: more counselors! more resources! (whatever "resources" might mean). At least Miranda is pushing collaboration and partnership with the resources available from the County and encouraging community partnerships, instead of just calling for more money and more resources to go to APS for vague generalities. |
That's because "chief of staff" didn't exist before Duran. If you follow APS closely, you should realize the Duran has greatly expanded and reorganized central office administration staff and he has done so, for the most part, with people who don't do anything. I suspect that's one reason Stockton left - he wasn't doing anything and thought he could be more useful in Montg Co. |
MOVE. ON! |
"Reckless"? Is the caucus going to bring out hysterics from a certain group again? |
