THIS. The drug use AT school is out of control. MCPS needs to do better for all our kids. |
MCPS regs say expelled kids can be given daily home learning assignments. So yes, this can generally be done. |
Sounds like a failing of the police department since it's their job to enforce drug laws. |
Some people are under this mistaken impression that schools are magical places where the rule of law is suspended. Society already imposes consequences for both illegal drug use and violence. MCPS has no place dispensing justice. |
Even more reason to bring back SROs. |
t Schools aren't prisons. SROs Don't work. |
The people of Montgomery County do not want police officers in schools. Voters have made that clear. Our County Exec has made that clear. The police are not welcome at our schools. How can they enforce drug laws AT schools if they are not allowed to be AT schools? |
Not when the kids are not caught. If there is nobody available to enforce the rules, the kids can break them without consequence. Which is exactly what is going on in our schools currently. Kids can smoke weed (illegally) at school or distribute Percoset at school and know they won't get caught. So, yes, the rule of law is pretty much suspended. |
How many dozens of SROs would it take to watch a couple thousand kids? |
How do you know that people of Montgomery county don't want SROs? There wasn't a vote. There wasnt a survey. It was a decision made by a couple of people on the county council and approved by elrich. None has kids in MCPS. All HS principals, the people hired to lead their schools and to ensure safety of students and staff.. wanted to keep SROs.. |
I left east Moco in the 90s. How common is it now for girls to pass out in bathrooms? Is this happening frequently? |
^ person who mistakenly believes rule of laws is suspended at magical school boundary ... news flash they aren't Police aren't stationed at your home either but if you commit a crime there they come. |
Not common but it's more of a parenting issue to send your children to school drunk. |
+1 Criminal activity less likely to happen with police presence. Remove police presence, crime goes up. Look at what is happening in those cities where they "defunded the police". If you want to live in a crime infested area, have at it. But I don't want my kids to go to school where there is rampant drug use and violent behavior. My kids feel safer with cops around. Why does my kids' wants and feelings get disregarded? Because the progressive liberals have taken the stance that "to make things more equitable, you have to apply rules unequally". Also, some PoC kids may feel unsafe with cops around, but do they feel any safer without cops and with violent kids around? Seriously? Wouldn't it make more sense for those kids to get to know cops in a safe place rather than out in the streets? Do progressive liberals not want cops at all in their cities? If not, who's going to come when there are thieves and rapists in your home? Will your kids call the cops if there is an intruder if they are afraid of cops? Progressive liberal' logic makes no sense here. Why are you making those kids more afraid of cops? |
