You guys are completely focused on the wrong thing.  That NJ story is horrifying.  But, the problem is not phones.  The HUGE problem in that case, and in these MCPS fights is that our kids are being ASSAULTED AT SCHOOL.  Truly, that is the problem.  The poor girl in NJ should never have been beaten up like that IN a school building.

Fights outside of school have gone on since the beginning of time.  But the proliferation of fights in school should be a huge issue for all parents.  It's not just the kid being beaten up who is in danger.  Teachers or staff who try to break up the fight are in danger.  Innocent kids who are standing around at their lockers are in danger.

What happens outside of school is not schools responsibility, it's not other students responsibility.  Students who want to learn at school have the right to feel SAFE at school.  At freaking school people!!  This should be the safest place for a child to be.  [/quote]

Some people are under this mistaken impression that schools are magical places where the rule of law is suspended. Society already imposes consequences for both illegal drug use and violence. MCPS has no place dispensing justice.[/quote]
