This is what my DS did. He said, “Don’t worry Mom, I know what they want to hear.”

Same! Apropos a different class in a similar school. Proud of their critical judgment abilities. Not pleased their time and energy are being sapped by unintelligible poorly constructed reinterpretation of theories that didn’t deserve any reinterpretation in the first place. Because there are pseudobabble junk.

Don’t be a rapist, don’t be a racist. Done. Now give back your consulting $$$$$

Reinterprestation of theores?

So in other words, you don't believe there was wealth built in this country on the backs of unpaid slavery? And that institutions have marginalized people of color and denied wealth creation for people of color from an institutional basis since the countries founding? Please be specific, what do you find pseudo?

I won’t be drafted into an argument that starts with an incorrect restatement and then argues with that sentence that the poster never said.
Toxic masculinity as was explained earlier in the thread is a theory and a movement from the 1990s. It doesn’t mean what you think it means. It was stupid then and reinterpreted it’s not much better. That’s all you are getting from me so go bait someone else.

Dp: Do you really need a year long class to tell you that though? You know darn well that is not what OP is objecting to.

According to my kid, every session degrades into why men/toxic masculinity is the core #1 thing wrong with the world. Teachers do nothing to stop this. The conversation degrades to 20 minutes of such informed debate as "men should be banned from running companies, cities, holding public office"

We chose this school. It's known for its stances. But if one was to try to devise the most effective way to turn off boys n a classroom from learning and cause backlash, this would be it. Our school is known for protecting students with "safe speech" around topics like the holocaust, racism etc but yet that does not apply here for some reason. I also dont like safety-ism so I dont want to lean on that argument if I go to the scvhool

What advice do you all have for a parent worried about this dynamic and in particular the wholesale accusations against men and boys as harming boys in the classroom? Go to the teacher or up to admin?

This is a serious post and I beg that the mods not remove this thread

Have you considered sending him to the heights? I’m being serious. There is zero wokeness.

The wealth of some many of my ancestors came after slavery and lived up north where there was never slavery.

I will add I support reparations to some extent but then they must be made to all affected including Native Americans and even other groups who were denied ownership of homes entering into certain businesses like Jewish people. No I am not Jewish but am aware there were many restrictions on them and other groups as well.

Your white ancestors still benefited from being able to vote unencumbered, being able to own property wherever they wanted (which undoubtedly helped your family accumulate generational wealth), being able to attend schools and colleges unencumbered, being able to own and start business unencumbered, having all Americans use their money to flow into said businesses, being able to own and profit off their trademarks, being able to hold high earning positions in Wall Street, medical field, etc. Need I go on?! The fact that you really think all racism starts and stops at this imaginary slavery line and north and south astounds me

Are you for real?! Generational wealth?! Huh? We did not have generational wealth of any kind. Ancestors on one side worked and worked and never could afford a home. Could only rent and had to move every time they got kicked out of one place they couldn’t pay the rent on. I am very liberal and was all for reparations but people like you and your ideas of getting a hand out and that your life is so much worse than my ancestors really is a turn off and it makes this very liberal person not want to support reparations.

Agree! This is why reparations will never get passed because too many peoples ancestors came after slavery and were also discriminated against and there are many blue collar working class families still in this country that are dirt poor. Take a trip to West Virginia Appalachia. Many don’t have health insurance and can’t afford it. Many don’t own homes. I don’t have the answer but the pp you not win any support (which they will need to ever get reparations) by making there arguments. Many people did and still so struggle .

Tell that to Jewish people that could not attend schools or live in neighborhoods or enter into certain fields in the US. They had all these restrictions put on them – look it up they couldn’t live in many neighborhoods in DC or work in many fields or professions. Somehow they manage to rise up though and overcome them and become very successful. Irish and Italians were treated terribly and could not get jobs or employment either. No Catholics allowed etc but not worse than Jewish people.

Does your son feel like these discussions are an attack on him? Toxic masculinity is not about rejecting men. It's about rejecting a set of expectations for men that hurt both men and women - things like expecting men to hide their emotions, engage in violence/aggression to get respect, treat sex as a conquest instead of an emotional experience.

Interrogating those things is good for young men too.
