And as a grown man he could not use his own head? And the Queen herself was ignorant and naive as to how Diana’s life would change? |
Also told him to him to stop seeing Camilla and make it work with Diana. |
and I blame the Kate machine for muck of that bad press. |
She was a bad mother. She openly disliked Charles and doted on Andrew. |
Nope, I think she was told exactly what to expect (many, many of her friends have stated this to the press, that they warned her over and over again) and she ignored them saying "oh that won't happen to ME!". She was in denial (as most of us probably would be if (a) we thought our prince would protect us and (b) we were pretty much white passing). |
Oh, just stop pretending a grown man in any other family is the same as the grown son of the super traditional Queen of England. |
This is so false. Why do spout off lies as if they were fact? Get your head out of the tabloids . I doubt Charles would agree with you. |
| The Queen was not a “bad mother” by the standards of aristocratic England in the 1950’s. Stop comparing her to 2022 gentle attachment parenting. |
Those close in the line of succession needed the Queen's permission to marry. Margaret was not allowed to marry a divorced man. Things have relaxed, but it's not like these royals are going to make a surprise engagement announcement on the family. Before mass media, those marrying into the royal family wouldn't have faced the same media scrutiny that seems to cause so many problems. |
She had no to little interaction with her children. Same with the grandkid and great grandkids. Let’s stop acting like she was this great mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. This is all spin for littles. |
I never said she was a “great mother.” I’m saying she was a typical mother for her generation of wealthy British. |
Yes, please! |
|
The Queen was the mother she was expected to be.

I think Meghan also overestimated the amount of influence she would be able to exert. She reminds me of a colleague who joined my very large government agency and for some reason thought that she could come in and immediately start changing the way things were done. Not surprisingly, it rubbed people the wrong way, and she was gone in less than a year. I think Meghan came in wanting to do various things and had visions of changes she wanted to make, it rubbed people the wrong way (especially coming from a person with absolutely no familiarity or knowledge of the Firm), and things snowballed from there. |
Not to disagree, but there is also a culture shock RF is incredibly stiff and boring and stuck in their ways. British only like people who are like them. A person who comes from another country speaks the wrong accent, has incorrect body language and people easily misunderstand |
