The better question is why are the wealthy and well educated less religious? Why are most scientists less religious?

Religion is for the poor who are looking forward to the better life when they die. Rich people are already enjoying the good life.

+1, also, religion is for rich people who like to feel that they are blessed by god to have so much material wealth

I don't care what you believe, but keep your hands off minors.

The Catholic Church systematized hiding child rape from secular authorities. I wonder if there is any organization in history responsible for more child abuse than the Church?

It’s been said before, but there are many more Catholics than atheists. And although there are fewer atheists, the number of atheist sexual abusers is surprisingly high, starting with that disgusting Thorstad man-boy love guy, passing Richard “mild pedophilia isn’t so bad” Dawkins, Sam Harris defending the atheist physicist who abused women, and the two national atheist orgs who knowingly employed that sexual predator. So on a percentage basis, atheists aren’t as clean as you’d like to think.

Not to mention all the non-prominent atheists who are sexual abusers - and the non-prominent religious people who are sexual abusers. Their number is surprisingly high!

The most dangerous institutions are schools, not churches. A DOJ funded study report says an estimated 10% of students experience sexual misconduct by school employees by 12th grade.

OP is trolling with this lame a$$ thread.

And then tomorrow OP will complain about how the atheists are a nuisance on this forum.

Maybe we should ask Jeff if OP is a prolific atheist basher…

Wow, the truth hurts, huh? When all you can come up with is insults, you’ve lost the argument.

So you lost a long time ago.

Being rich does not mean you are happy or living a good life. Anyone who thinks that has never visited a 3rd world country. Although the people there have great hardship and suffering, they love their families and find joy in small things and are not materialistic.

Nobody will address the FBI and DOJ covering up systematic sexual abuse of Larry Nassar…

Sexual abuse occurs percentage wise highest in families. Not church.

Oh good lord, patronize much?

And no, nobody will address Nassar at all, just the poor churches.

No one cares about Dawkins. He’s just some random dude. I only heard about him from the atheist bashers on DCUM.

Who said atheists take sexual abuse by atheists—in this case, the world’s most prominent atheist—seriously? That doesn’t seem to be the case.

I don't think that word means what you think it means.

Atheism is a belief without evidence to support that belief. It's very close to a religion. Agnosticism is the absence of religion because there is no belief that requires faith.

Atheism is a belief without evidence to support that evidence? Atheism more so just rests on the observable world. Its rests on observable reality. It’s not close a religion. Religion rests on fantastical beliefs.

That's agnosticism. Atheism takes it a step further and insists there is no god which is not a provable thesis anymore than there is a god. That makes it a belief.

Yes but, churches are trying to get people to join and believe. Atheists just live their lives and don't try to change people's opinions or take your money. As far as I know..

DP. Thanks for the links to threads from 2018, 2021 and June 2022, but the age and rarity of these links compared to the daily church bashing hardly support your claim that Nassar gets equal treatment.

Does anyone excuse his actions? Is he in a position to have power over children like a priest of a boy scout leader?

Nobody said that. This puts a fine point on the hypocrisy of atheists’ daily slams against Catholics, though.

There are many bad people - some atheists and some religious. Beingg atheists or religious is not the cause of why some are bad. Have we not seen enough of bad on both sides? I don't know why you are picking fight with atheists. That's not very Christian-like.

Providing data is leveling the playing field after years of daily vitriol against Catholics and other believers. Providing data is not “picking a fight” in any sense.

Come on PP. It's called "cherry picking". Be better.

So you’re discounting sexual misconduct by misleading atheists. Got it.

Don't think you Got it, but you sure are trying hard to make atheists look like sexual predators. Any group has a hard time catching up to religions when it comes to sexual predation.

You atheists have a pretty high batting average. Including Dawkins and the guy who started the Man-boy love group. Why do you keep pretending to be holier-than-thou?[/quote]

This is funny. I only have known religious people to think that they are "holier than thou"

You can’t be serious. This is a real eye-roller.

What do you think atheists do every hour on DCUM with all the threads on Bible violence and earnest please we listen to atheist podcast? You guys are proselytizing for atheism 24/7/365 (I didn’t come up with that 24/7/365 but it seems to necessary here).

The most dangerous institution is families.
It isn’t an atheist problem. It isn’t a (insert religion of your choice) problem. It’s a male problem. That is the common denominator, just like with violence. Of course not all men or even most men.

Dawkins was talking about his own experiences being groped by a teacher at boarding school and said it wasn’t so bad. He concluded from that that “mild” pedophila was OK. Do you think no teachers listened to that?
