This has got to change. I think the abuse is rampant.

Marvateens: Money and volume. Lots of kids to make tons of money. Holds kids back so the team does well so he can say that they won states. Only thing is, the kids are much older and bigger than the other teams . Your child will not progress very fast, but sadly, they will put in tons of time. No nationally ranked kids, no college scholarships. He will put you off the team in a second if the kid or parent talks back, petty. Can't spot talent.
Dobre: He is a crook and just can't seem to be honest and sincere. Schemer. Some girls don't feel comfortable around him, but he is not dumb enough to be a creep. She knows the sport, but they don't produce a stars. They want tiny young girls. Small space. Get a receipt. Can spot talent, but turns kids off.
Hills: Good equipment with good coaches. However, it is a game. They do not want parents around at all, not even watching. They seem to think that you should just trust them. Funny, with all their know how, they aren't that good at spotting a potential star. Kids leave there and flourish elsewhere. Kelli is a perpetual teen (or even tween). They do produce champions and lots of college scholarships.
Preston: Boys' team. They have fun. He is nice, connects well with the kids, but it is a place to just learn basics. Adults train there, but they are away from the kids. Can spot talent, but will only tell you if you ask.
EGS Frederick: Very nice people (strangely related to Dobre's people, but nice). Good equipment. They know the sport well enough. Best kept secret if you are close enough. Can spot talent.
Dynamite: This is also a big money mill, worse than Marvateens. All they want is tons of kids and adults running through there. They have a lot of adults training there sort of unsupervised. You never know who is traipsing through the gym. They can't keep coaches or athletes. Waste of money and time. Can't spot talent.
Freestate: Nothing special. Not a great team.
Silver Stars: Nothing great. You won't learn. Not a bad place to start.
YMCA: Meh, even worse than Freestate. Horrible equipment.

Camps:
IGC: Very nice. top rate. They pay attention to detail.
Woodward: Crazy pot heads, poorly organized, adults mixed with kids. Good equipment and good coaches.

Rhythmic:
Capital Rhythmics: Nice folks, very kind, had an Olympian. They know their stuff.
Elegance: Ohhh, some mean mean people. Very hard on the girls. That place is best for Russian girls whose parents understand that culture.

My kids now, not in gymnastics, but one dives.

Thank you for this.
Can anyone pls share about any of the VA places?

Don't wait underwater for any changes from law enforcement.

They got thrown off by the poorly understood sport, and the "doctor" with highly technical explanations.

This is why the enablers should be investigated.
All of them.

The police and FBI aren’t going to investigate themselves and they botched this horribly.

Independent Counsel to investigate the US Olympic Committee. What else should be done? Nassar was the only criminal.

*Nassar was NOT the only criminal.

“The U.S. Olympic Committee didn’t intervene in USA Gymnastics’ handling of sexual-abuse allegations against longtime national-team doctor Larry Nassar in 2015, even after USA Gymnastics’ then-president told two top USOC executives that an internal investigation had uncovered possible criminal behavior by the doctor against Olympic athletes.
The communications—a July 2015 phone call and a September 2015 email described to The Wall Street Journal by people familiar with the matter—shed new light on the Olympic Committee’s knowledge of a scandal that has since engulfed American gymnastics.
The interactions also raise questions about why officials at USOC, which oversees USA Gymnastics and has criticized that organization’s response to the Nassar scandal, didn’t reach out to athletes, law enforcement or Dr. Nassar’s other employers in the year before allegations against him became public in September 2016.
During that yearlong period, a federal investigation into the matter languished, and Dr. Nassar continued to see—and allegedly abuse—patients in Michigan.”

The USOC has some explaining to do...

I have mixed feelings about the sport and its culture, namely USAG.
On one hand, when you are teaching a 14 year old to do a full twisting double back flip, the athlete can only be obedient. Disaster comes to those who don't train hard and can't follow instructions. So you line up a set of obedient, non rebellious, teens who bubbled through the system, a setup.
On the other hand, you have a bunch of coaches who have devoted their entire lives to the sport. The more devoted ones move up faster in the organization. Few are well educated. Maybe an undergraduate college degree, maybe.
They are very much afraid of any athlete being injured, which spells disaster. To avoid injury, weight has to be kept down, and attention from doctors is a mandatory.
Of course there was the pressure to put on a show at the Olympics. Women's gymnastics is one of the most watched events every four years.
My only strong criticism is allowing one single doctor to have access to the athletes. Other doctors (real doctors) would have figured Nasser out in no time. Also, when the allegations started to come in, call in the professionals. Lawyers, doctors, counselors, since you're in a complex mess that you don't understand. Call for help when you're in over your head.

The entire "setup" seems to be abusive, toxic and destructive. I am no longer excited about the Olympics, now that we know what goes on behind the sences to these kids.
