| So I know that when it comes to politics, the actions of the FBI during Comey’s tenure have infuriated both sides. So now we learn about the FBI’s inexcusable mishandling of the Gymnastics abuse. How can it have gotten so bad! I cannot imagine being the FBI guy who takes explicit testimony from an Olympic gymnast about abuse from her doctor and then decides to sit on it for 17 months. He should have been fired for that inaction alone. And his boss trying to get a job with US Gymnastics! What is going on! This isn’t Republican or Democratic partisanship. This is evidence of an internal managerial and moral rot that is absolutely terrifying. |
| Op here. Maybe the topic should be moved out of Politics. Wasn’t sure where to post. |
|
It sounds like the FBI did the same thing to Nassar's victims that they did to Dr. Basley-Ford.
There is a mysogony problem, for sure and it obviously runs deep. |
So that I don’t have to go sifting, did you have a specific article you read? |
Fully agree. When the FBI can't even prosecute a sex crime because...why? Money? Politics? |
|
This happened under Comey. I think we have seen that Comey's directorship at the FBI was an absolute abomination.
The culture comes from the top. The agent/agents who dealt with this case should all be prosecuted, IMO. Unforgivable. |
Nevermind. Found it myself. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/fbi-agent-nassar-investigation/2021/09/14/f4fed85a-158a-11ec-9589-31ac3173c2e5_story.html |
Between the ish he pulled with Mrs. Clinton vs the kid gloves that Donald got, and this story, Comey’s reputation is in the toilet with Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Barrett. |
I think Comey is a megolamoaniac. He messed with Hillary’s campaign just so he could be relevant. His antics with Trump were similar. It does make me question whether his moral compass was ever straight. He took down Marth Stewart and it gives me real pause for thought. I always wondered why super rich Martha would bother insider trading for something like 35k. Never made sense. Well maybe she didn’t but she got in Comey’s crosshairs and was a good way to build his reputation. Comey has like 4 or 5 daughters. It is astonishing to me that all these men with daughters could let this happen. Maybe taking on gymnastics or managing his staff wasn’t exciting enough. Glad he is gone. |
What does having daughters have to do with anything? He clearly has significant issues with women; a guy shouldn’t need to have daughters in order to think women are people. Oh and here’s more of what Comey’s failed FBI caused - between 70 and 120 more women and girls to be sexually assaulted. “ The report found that while the supervisory special agent interviewed a gymnast in 2015 about her claims of Nassar’s abuse, he did not write up a formal report of that interview, known as a “302,” until 17 months later. Maroney’s lawyer has said even that report is fundamentally inaccurate. Nassar was ultimately arrested by authorities in Michigan in late 2016. The inspector general said that in the time between the FBI being alerted to the allegations and his eventual arrest, Nassar went on to abuse about 70 more victims, though lawyers for those victims say the figure is more like 120.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/gymnasts-nassar-fbi-investigation-hearing/2021/09/14/de4832cc-159f-11ec-9589-31ac3173c2e5_story.html |
| I don’t think it is an FBI problem; it’s a societal problem. Look how long comedians knew about Cosby. Look at all the unprocessed rape kits. Look at the child pornography problem. Most men in our society don’t care if women and children are exploited. |
Again, this is a societal problem as PP thinks having daughters is important. 😳
|
While I don’t think that is true, I also do hold FBI agents to the standard of enforcing the law and at least investigation. It’s even in the name. He didn’t have to believe the report. But his job and oath required him to investigate it whether he believed it or not. |
What don’t you think is true? I think all police SELECTIVELY apply laws. Rape of women and molesting kids is a low priority for police. |
| I said that about the daughters. Maybe it doesn’t resonate with some of you but before I had kids, I would read all kinds of books. After kids I couldn’t even read the Pat Conroy book South of Broad because it had so much abuse in the plot. Anyway, Comey was apparently a terrible FBI agent for a whole variety of reasons but this one may be the worst of his failings by far. So many lives damaged. |
