The fact that the city did not institute such a sign and that a private citizen had to is a good indicator that the city is more interested in revenue than safety.

The city put up the stop sign. The stop sign is the sign that you are supposed to stop. The fact that you don't think a stop sign indicates "make a full stop behind this white line" and instead you need a sign ON THE STOP SIGN saying "you're supposed to stop here" just means you're a bad driver, it doesn't mean there's a nefarious scheme at work to trick you out of your ticket money.

Completely insane that people think a big red stop sign isn't a sign saying to stop.

The additional sign will ensure “bad drivers” stop completely for several seconds before proceeding. Isn’t that a good thing (to you)? A sign like this probably leads to more compliance than an unsigned camera.

They are clearly not interested in saving lives. Only interested in punishing people.

It's completely insane that people aren't self aware enough to acknowledge that 99.9% don't come to a complete stop at any stop sign.

Dude they have signs about photo enforces speeding and stop sign. They place these sign and post a speed limit sign within a few 100 yards of the camera. If you see a speed limit sign and a photo enforcement sign close to each other …an enforcement camera up coming soon. People do not pay attention to the signs.

There is not a single sign on 37th from Tunlaw to Whitehaven about this camera. But thanks for playing.

There is now. I think the city added a sign very recently (maybe this weekend?) - there's a big one on Tunlaw @ W Street on the west side of the strete. I just noticed it today for the first time as I was driving home. I'm pretty sure it's new, along with the sign the resident recently added.

Cyclists are pushing the city council to make it legal for them to blow stop signs. They even have an Orwellian euphemism for ignoring stop signs. They call it an “Idaho stop.”

The fact that many people don't follow the law doesn't change that it's a law. Is this how you raise your children? To follow the crowd, regardless of what the rules are?

I don't mind the second sign, hopefully it gets more people to stop, but I don't know why we're lowering our standards for behavior so much that expecting people to follow the law is "insane." It isn't. Stopping, actually stopping, is possible.

In fact, the stop sign in question here is an obvious one for all cyclists to blow through because it’s a T junction.

The obvious hypocrisy is a bit too much.

Good attempt at diversion. This thread is about drivers.

People on that Nextdoor thread alleged that but of course you also need to completely stop behind the stop bar which is the other thing most drivers don't do (besides not stopping).

Here is the thing - if you got a stop sign citation there is an on-line video! That you can share and prove you were improperly cited.

The outraged guy who started the Nextdoor thread actually had the decency to share his video and guess what - he coasted right through the stop sign! He didn't even get close to the spirit of a legal stop to say nothing of the actual letter of the law.

There is a guy on that thread who has now posted 2 30-40 second videos he shot at 44th and Fessenden and in neither video does even a single driver make a legal stop and only a couple of drivers even come close.

The guy over in Crestwood who is outraged he got 3 citations at 17th and Blagden and has been bloviating on the Crestwood listserve for months also shared all 3 of his video citations and guess what - he also didn't come close to a legal stop! He doesn't even claim in interviews that he actually made legal stops just that it is outrageous and unfair that the law is being strictly enforced.

Here are the 3 videos:

NP here who doesn’t even live in that area, so please don’t attack me. What’s wrong with these stops? From this angle, it seems like the driver came to a complete stop, albeit a brief one.

No they didn't. They slowed to a crawl and then sped back up. A car coming to a complete stop, even a brief one, will rock backward when its forward momentum disappears.

I thought it was about a stop sign camera and traffic laws. I didn’t realize that traffic laws only applied to drivers.

No it isnt. This thread is about people stopping at a stop sign. Obviously all vehicle operators should make a complete stop at it.
