The article says the shooter was a man. |
If it is true that the dead carjacker was in the driver’s seat and starting the car when shot, the shooter is 100% going to prison for a very long time. Appropriately so. If that is the case, the threat was over and he was shooting out of anger or to protect his property. And the news accounts says the shooter is a man so this notion of a female Baltimore police officer isn’t holding. |
This is not true. Just look at what happened to the doctor in Adams Morgan - you cannot say "the threat was over." Maybe if he chased them into the street and shot at the car driving away you would have a point. But the carjacking was in process, not completed. The shooter does not need to fear charges or prison time. |
There were 4 other people, at least one of whom also had a gun. What threat was over? The threat wouldn't be over until they were all gone, which they weren't. I don't know the details of this but I don't understand all this pushback and trying to blame the victim. Why aren't we celebrating the victim? |
I think it's mostly because racists were doing backflips about the death of one of the carjackers. Jeff mostly cleaned up the thread but in distancing themselves from those posters I think some have landed in an indefensible place. I am glad that the driver is alive and safe and I hope that he is able to deal with the emotional fallout taking someone's life, since he certainly didn't wake up that morning planning to do so. I think the mom is showing her ass on social media but I try not to judge grieving people too harshly - she had a son heading to college last week and now this. |
Serious question for people who think the shooter is the villain and unjustified, what would you do if it were you being carjacked with your kid in the backseat, and you had a gun in the car and knew how to use it? Nothing? What if your kid was screaming and the carjacker shot and killed him/her? Everyone, including criminals, is trigger happy nowadays so I can’t believe people are advocating just being a doormat and praying the carjacker doesn’t hurt you. Remember the Indian doctor in DC who got carjacked, run over, and killed? |
Ah, the detached-from-reality "prison for a very long time" poster is back. |
Threat not over. Now he is driving another deadly weapon. If someone was actively running away and was more than 100 feet away then maybe not justified. Even so it would be odd to prosecute the victim here even if the shooting was off because ----- they are a victim. But those are not our facts. |
NP here, let's consider the source of the allegation Poteat was in the driver's seat when he was shot. 1) his mother is alleging this, and she wasn't there, and 2) she admits in the interview that she was told this "by friends". Who are these friends? The 15 year old that is in the hospital, the 15 year old who is not in the hospital or the other 18 year old who was just in court? All of them have been charged with carjacking. We are supposed to take the word of the 3 other people who were involved? Yeah, no. BTW, no one has been charged with murder or manslaughter and Alexandria would love nothing better than to charge the car owner with something when he shot someone with his own gun. |
+1 What matters is they had a gun and made a threat and a demand. All the rest is noise. If Bryan Porter thought there was a way to score some "woke points" with this he would. No charges for the driver means there is nothing. |
When did it become acceptable to steal a car?
The victim of the carjacking must have had a lot of fear. There were four males against one. Two adult males and two 15 year olds were doing the carjacking. Perhaps the carjacker that was going to college should have thought about getting a job. |
Now the mother has given an interview to NBC4 too and now she claims the gun was “found” by one of the 15 year olds who gave it to her son and that her son did use it to try to get the car owner to give up his keys.
Now it sounds like they’re turning on each other and she admits her son not only had a gun but used it in an attempt to get the car. Are people now going to concede that the carjackers were armed and were using the guns as a threat? BTW the mother just seems a bit delusional and I wonder if the news is contacting her or is she contacting them. They should not be interviewing her at this point. It doesn’t help her deceased son’s case at all. https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/he-wasnt-thinking-mother-mourns-son-killed-in-alexandria-carjacking-attempt/3055262/ |
Surprise, surprise! Idiot woman has idiot son; More at 11:00! |
She actually sounded pretty contrite there. Hard to pity because the kid was such a violent a--hole, but I have sympathy for her. |
I really wish the mother would stop giving TV interviews |
