It's disgusting the lengths some people will go to over this small-minded nonsense. |
Your posts sure make it seem otherwise.

I would have an issue with any administrator doing this regardless of race. You can play the race game but it’s not about race but what is a good use of mcps money, taxpayer money and what it accomplished. You have yet to say what it accomplished. |
You're the one making a whole thing out of this one photo, and you have yet to produce any evidence of wrongdoing. |
Different poster, but no one here knows if this accomplished anything or not. Its an assumption either way unless you get a debrief from Dr. McKnight of possibly Central Office. The question that should be asked is why are people assuming ill will about Dr. MCKnight and this trip or this portion her trip with no evidence. I agree with the posters who are supporting McKnight because I honestly don’t get the hate folks have for her. She obviously trying to engage with the district community, she has a Strategic plan, is improving communication, working to get kids caught up, and working with all parties on the benchmark curroculum. Like what really do folks want from her. |
So, basically you cannot answer the question so you scream racism and try to shift the discussion to nothing. The fact is this is very small school that she went to undergraduate school for. Her family continues to live in that area. For her master's and PhD, she went to schools local to DC. The local schools are much larger and would get far more teachers for MCPS than her undergraduate school that has what under 3000 students for all majors/degrees, which is smaller than many MCPS high schools. This is not a good use of her time or taxpayer money. She could have accomplished the same hour talk on zoom or over the phone. We are also in a pandemic. Central office has had a large number of positives the past two weeks. Her traveling, unmasked does not set a good example for our school community. She needs to set a good example and behave accordingly. Yes, I expect much more from her than the average person as she is in a high level position and her choices directly impact others welfare, education, health and safety. Just like I expect more from someone like Biden, who is behaving the same way. So, some of our kids are forced to continue in zoom school because of the choices she makes for our community. See how that works? So, she gets to live up life, travel, and have fun, while our kids are stuck at home behind a computer because she refuses to help keep our schools safe so all of our kids can return to in person. |
Back to the topic, how did this trip/college visit benefit MCPS. Actually, she isn't trying to engage with the district community. She's holding public meetings, unmasked in large groups. That might be ok for your family, but not ours. She's done nothing to engage the community we are in, in terms of schooling. The only positive thing I see she is doing is bring back the police/security to the schools. |
Dr. McKnight has been in the interim position for almost a year. She promoted Students First in her first 100 days vision plan but did nothing to follow through with that vision despite extra COVID funding and the gaps students have from 18 months of online learning. As a parent of a student with disabilities who an outside agency has determined is due compensatory services, Dr. McKnight is doing nothing to improve compliance of her own Central Office staff. Students need more than slogans. Parents are tired of the spin. For a district our size (the 16th largest in the United States) meetings at 3 schools is not enough for true input. If students had smaller class sizes and access to free resources to fill in the gaps created during online learning, I wouldn’t worry about her travel plans. I am concerned that she does not wear a mask and her priority has been to cut teachers and counselors vs. hiring additional positions. I am concerned that she prioritizes additional Central Office positions and time off for Central Office administrators over the need for more staff in schools. Her priorities says that Dr. McKnight’s self interest and the interest of close friends come before MCPS students. The teachers gave her a vote of no confidence for a reason and that is because she is a poor leader making poor choices. |
Really? I get emails from her constantly about community engagement. I'm not keen about turning schools into prisons. However, it seems like you just have it out for Dr. McKnight. Makes me wonder if you were poster calling her Monifa a week ago? |
While I agree with everything you said, MCPS IS offering free virtual tutoring through two programs. We were able to get some tutors - one good, one bad (but not MCPS's fault one is bad) so they are at least offering that to all students. But, they should be offering way more ST, OT and PT as well as reading specialists to students who need it regardless of the covid issue. The amount of ST we got was a joke and not related to my child's needs. However holding three live town halls in cafeteria's with adults tightly packed together right after spring break to see seems like a disaster. It shows a huge lack of judgment and is not equitable to parents who are not comfortable being in that kind of situation. It is shameful that they didn't use the funding to make more physical improvements to the schools and to hire more teachers, para's and specialists. So much wasteful spending. |
Schools aren't being turned into prisons. They are bring in more security to keep our students and staff safe given recent events. I think they need more security, not less and I'd be thrilled for things like metal detectors as sadly in today's culture they are needed. I don't have it out for Dr. McKnight. I'd feel this way about anyone in her position traveling, not using her time wisely, and the wasteful spending as well as not putting student and staff needs above her pet projects. I also feel the same way about many of our elected officials behaving badly. Biden not masking is an embarrassment... same with all the unnecessary travel. |
Hiring prison guards makes it seem like it and god forbid something bad happens they tend to run away like with Parkland. |
I know! This poster obsessed with Dr. McKnight and I'm beginning to think they have issues with an AA woman running things too. |
The discussion is about her behavior and choices as a public official. The only one who cares about race is you. And, if she’s traveling she’s not working. |
Let me guess. You don’t have kids in mcps so you don’t have to worry about school safety. Lots have done good things and saved lives. |
