This is a news report about the proposed budget cuts:

https://wjla.com/amp/news/local/montgomery-county-public-schools-fy-23-proposed-budget-cuts-teacher-counselor-positions

There's attrition every year. What teachers are getting pink slips?

Teachers spoke up in the other thread.

I just see openings and still more openings.

For the teachers who lost their positions, they can either choose to leave the school system (for a school system that values their talents and experience) or to apply for another position that most likely is at another school. Very unsettling while you are working to close out the current school year.

I'm sure that is unsettling, but next year's allocated positions are based on enrollment projections. If their school's enrollment is decreasing, and another school is is need of more teachers, I can see why there would need to be some shifting of people, as uncomfortable as that may be.

Perhaps MCPS should looking at the delivery. It’s unsettling to be given notice that your job is cut with no direct offer of a similar position. It’s distressing to have a commute double with today’s gas prices and the increase expense comes out of your teaching salary.

It's just as likely that your commute would be cut which is a savings with today's gas prices. Why do you want to always assume the worst?

Not that PP, but in my case I can tell you that my commute DID double. That happened once, and I was out after that year. I don't want to work somewhere where it doesn't pay to put down roots and build relationships with colleagues and families, let alone initiate programming outside your classroom that you won't be able to continue. It's not just the commute. It's feeling like a cog in a wheel. It's feeling dispensable, dismissed, even if your own school doesn't want to lose you. There has to be a better way. The delivery certainly is part of it.

MCPS employees staff, not individual schools. MCPS can and does move staff around as needed. I'm an itinerant employee - I know!

Dr. McKnight needs to update the culture of MCPS staffing practices. Treating teachers - the most valuable resource to the school system - as a disposable employee affects her recruitment efforts as well as her efforts to retain experienced teachers. It’s arrogant for Central Office to think well we are going to cut this staff member at this school without reaching out to that employee to work out a reasonable alternative position. Sure, MCPS can cut a position and place the burden on the teacher to look elsewhere for another job, but how well is that approach working for the school system’s reputation and staff retention?

On boarding brand new employees with zero experience include signing bonuses. Experience teachers can be left feeling hurt and unappreciated when their jobs are cut while signing bonuses entice them to go elsewhere.

Dr. McKnight needs to fix what is broken in house before wasting tax dollars traveling out of state under the guise of recruitment.

I agree teachers are a valuable resource, BUT it was n ever established that her travel was a waste of anything. That's just some random conclusion the OP jumped to without a shred of evidence.

This school graduates 50 teachers a year. What was the purpose of the trip?

Seems pretty clear. Recruiting is a big deal.

Oh. Yes. It's not like someone else could do it. It has to be her, right? It's not like there's anything more pressing for her to work on at MCPS.

It's too bad she didn't think of getting bus drivers before calling the National Guard for help. Such well-spent money. Yup.

We get it You're threatened by an AA woman in charge of MCPS and will make sweeping generalizations and cast dispersions without a shred of evidence.

I understand. Playing the race card is the only thing her supporters can do when she's shown to be incompetent. It still doesn't change the facts. Go ahead - why does being AA explain this:

"The suspect was located inside the school just before 3 p.m. A handgun was also found with that student." "Buses were seen lined up at the school at 4:30 p.m. two hours after their regular dismissal time." "Students were seen leaving the building just before 5:30 p.m."
https://wjla.com/news/local/student-injured-at-mag...ntgomery-county-public-schools

"At 4:16 p.m., Montgomery County Police tweeted that a press conference had been scheduled for 4:45 p.m. at Sequoyah Elementary School, about half a mile from Magruder's campus. The press conference, however, did not begin until around 5:40 p.m. Officials explained the delay was because MCPS Interim Superintendent Monifa McKnight had gotten stuck in traffic and needed a police escort."

Sequoyah HS was half a mile away and had already been dismissed. If Dr. McKnight is requiring teachers to be exposed to COVID by teaching in person, why isn’t she working in person at the Carver Center?

Is it true the reason why she needed the police escort is because she doesn't even live in or have her children attend MCPS schools? Does this mean she needs a police escort every time there's an issue? Does that mean children will be delayed just to wait for her press conferences?

Why did she lose two MCEA votes of confidence? 94% in an emergency vote and not much time to cast a ballot? That's a lot of teacher's and staff.
https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/schools/teachers-considering-no-confidence-resolution-on-mcps-covid-19-response/
https://www.fox5dc.com/news/montgomery-co-public-schools-teachers-union-votes-no-confidence-council-holding-emergency-session

Is it because 94% of the MCEA is racist against AA? Has nothing to do with being AA.

Although after what she did to Asians in the magnet program, I personally believe there is a racism issue here - and it's not with the parents.

This is her job. While I agree with you it’s not reasonable to demand she move and change her child schools. Many public officials don’t have their kids in public.

MCPS isn't good enough for her kids? That's an admission that she's doing a crappy job in itself. It's her job to hold kids in a HS because she's stuck in traffic until she has an evening news press conference? I can't call that leadership when worried parents are outside the school wondering why the school won't release their children. Covid? If she was doing her job, we would have had a coherent covid plan in January. Flying off to go "recruiting" so she fill vacancies because they don't want to deal with her policies anymore?

She's been a Deputy Superintendent, then an Interim Superintendent. Teachers are the most valuable resource a school has. Educating children is the ONLY reason why MCPS exists. If she hasn't figured that out by now, I don't know how anyone can defend her. She had her opportunity to shine, but instead will be forever known as one of the worst Superintendents in MCPS history.

"Worst superintendents"? You and your constant trolling. She hasn't even started the job yet. When the press conference was happening, they were still accounting for the kids in the building and getting the transportation together. There's no way that both can take place at the same time? The students weren't left in there solely for her to finish a press conference. Also, every road was closed so whether she was in PG or at Central Office, it would've taken her a long time to get through what was a secure crime scene at the time. Being superintendent doesn't just allow her to bypass that. Also, some might have said that oh she was in traffic, etc. so she couldn't start, but companies use excuses like that to mask the real reasons. Maybe she was on a call with somebody else or consulting with the legal team (which has to make every statement carefully because it can be used in court) and if she told the public the real reason, they'd be even more fearful. It takes a lot to be successful in a big job such as that, so we should root for her efforts to be successful and work with her. Everyone wants to be in the arena -- until they are. If you don't like it so much, get a PhD, teach in the system, and succeed her.

+1000 Pp there is no point discussing this with the other poster. They proven themselves to be trolling

Exactly, it wouldn't matter who was in charge of MCPS. They'd complain so I don't think it's racist but it is clear they resent public education.

Are you even reading what people are saying and the concerns.

She's been in the job since the start of the school year.

One thing she needs to do is cut out the wasteful spending, hire more staff and put kids needs first. It doesn't matter who is in that position but this would need to happen. Her going to SC for an award on taxpayer money is not appropriate. If she took leave and paid for it, fine.

Are you reading what people are saying? You seem unhinged and dead set against her. No matter what she does it will never be sufficient.

I have an issue with her leadership as my kids don't have equity in their school situation. We have no sports, no after school programs, no books, no library, no nothing. The only positive thing she's doing is bring back security but that is because the police pay for it, not MCPS.

Yes, I have an issue with her leadership. Test scores are down, the handling of covid was horrific, school violence is up and she's taking a vacation on tax payer money.

And she was going to change all that in the last 9 months how? Have you asked your principal why you have no after school programs and no books? Was McKnight supposed to put on a hard hat and build you a school with a library? Gift you a sports team? Most after school programs are done by the PTA, school, or vendors contracting to use the school space and then offering to the kids at the school and community.

It’s not even a known fact that she took a vacation, much less on tax payer money. test scores are down all across the country and world.

SO do you have a real gripe?

PTAs don’t pay for books, library’s or sports teams. There is no money as we are not funded the same way. The school is doing a great job with the resources they have.

PTAs pay for books all the time via books fairs, grants, and special programs. Just like they pay for art related stuff. Booster pay for additional sports stuff and other programs. These are literally the not secret ways parents funnel extra money into their kids schools. Schools across the county are funded the same, by student attendance. Now if you want to talk about building additions, new construction or the like thats a different story altogether.

New information on trip. McKnight went to SC State to get an award. She did not go to recruit.

Source?? Surely she went to recruit and get an award if that's the case. Even if she only got the award, I'm fine with that, too. Not the end of the world.

If she went to get an award she should pay for the trip.

Or, mind your own business. If the BOE smells blood, they'll investigate.

Said no one ever.

Of course you are ok with everything. You are paid to applaud waste.

Nobody here is paid by the system to do anything for her, but OK.

When did they stop? MCPS always has pr people on social media but you are saying they won’t do that for McKnight? They refuse to do their job?

You must be at a wealthy school. No school pta we have been at did any of that. No, our school is not funded by attendance but Covid funds. Other schools get our kids funding and do little to nothing for our kids.

DP. Your argument is that she doesn't live in MC or send her kids to MCPS schools because she doesn't want her kids exposed to MCPS violence, or because the academic curriculum is broken and she can't fix it, or she doesn't know how to program funds for (literally) crumbing schools, or how to do vendor outreach in MC to offer more after-school / extracurriculars, or not pay $780K of covid money for $40 bocci balls you can find on Amazon, or how to reallocate the budget to fund academic programs, or it's okay to botch the January covid handling?

New information on trip. McKnight went to SC State to get an award. She did not go to recruit.

Source?? Surely she went to recruit and get an award if that's the case. Even if she only got the award, I'm fine with that, too. Not the end of the world.

If she went to get an award she should pay for the trip.

There has been no evidence that this wasn't a legit business trip just innuendo by someone who seems unhinged.

Exactly, the poster is mostly bent out of shape by an AA woman running the show and is looking to find fault with anything she does.

She should pay for this trip to receive an award.

It proves they were not forthcoming about the purpose of the trip.

Who's "they"? Dr. McKnight told the board about the trip in March.

Thanks for sharing the link! I'm glad to read more about how the visit went. And of course it's a legit business trip.

So what I went out to lunch once on my last business trip too, that doesn't mean I didn't work. The lengths you'll go to fabricate evidence strains credibility.
