Why is anyone against early voting?

Who's against early voting? Two weeks isn't early enough for you? Are there any other special considerations you'd like??

Everyone needs a state-issued ID. Everyone dreads the DMV. Doesn’t really matter. Quit complaining and do what needs to be done.

I’m just pointing out that it’s not a trivial task. Especially the Real ID.

And I am lucky enough to have a car & money. And I can track down the various documents required for the Real ID. And while it’s a pain to schedule time off of work I can get time off of work. It’s possibly an extremely challenging task for some people.

Also, I haven’t had a valid ID in almost 2 years. You don’t “need” a valid gov’t ID.

Interesting. I guess you never see the doctor? Buy alcohol? Rent a car? Board a plane? Stay at hotels?

Not in the last 2 years.

My passport is expired too.

And we're supposed to have sympathy because you're... lazy?

They are lazy and racist. Everytime this comes up they claim the inconvenience too great and POC can't handle obtaining documents like birth certificates. The DMV gives you a checklist of docs you need, it's really quite simple

I’m not old or poor and it has been a huge PITA for me.

The GOP is pretty transparent about its effort to disenfranchise D voters across the board. They realize they can only win by taking away votes from eligible voters. And throwing away results they don’t like.

I guess it is a PITA to go online to request a copy of your birth certificate and marriage license. Previous generations were able to handle 3-4 hour in-person waits managing to get ID without even the internet. But I hope you understand not everyone, especially POC, have the same issues you seem to have with following directions.

That was a drivers license. I know it is hard for someone like yourself to understand the difference between a drivers license and a National ID? There is no voting fraud but because of people like you we need to reinvent a system that is working fine. It makes it harder to vote. The only reason you want for making it harder to vote is to suppress the vote. Conservatives just want to rule by dictate.

DP. I think it's hilarious that liberals such as yourself insist that obtaining an ID - something everyone should have anyway - is just too hard. Spare us all. No one is "making it harder to vote." You sound absolutely inept and helpless. Get an ID and stop whining.

The process is a huge PITA for everyone.
What if you don’t have unexpired US passport or US birth certificate?
(I didn’t have a valid drivers license & 2 additional forms of ID to get my certified birth certificate from my birth state. And once I sorted that out it took 3 months because of the backlog.)
What if you’re not on a lease/mortgage/utility?
What if you changed your name?

It’s a bit circular. If you don’t have a valid ID it’s very difficult to a REAL ID.

Here’s what you need for REAL ID:
Bring one from this category:
e.g., unexpired U.S. passport or U.S. birth certificate

Bring one from this category:
e.g., Social Security card or W-2 form displaying full number; Note: You will not be required to present proof of your Social Security number if you know the number and DMV is able to electronically verify it.

Bring two from this category:
e.g., valid Virginia driver’s license, recent utility bills, mortgage statement, or rental lease agreements displaying current residential street address, not a P.O. Box. Note: You may redact (blackout/whiteout) sensitive financial information.

Name changes:
If your name appears differently on your proof documents, you will be asked to present additional documentation to connect the names, such as a marriage certificate filed with a government agency or court, divorce decree, or court order. Note: Marriage licenses, civil union documents, and marriage certificates signed only by the wedding officiant (for example, a member of the clergy) will NOT be accepted. See REAL ID FAQs for more information.

DP. Why are you so hung up on RealID? You don't need RealID to vote. You simply need a state-issued ID card. This is not brain surgery.

+1
It's amazingly patronizing the way they claim POC and poor people in general can't manage to obtain ID. Liberals are the worst.

I think the use of the term liberal is outdated. These people aren't liberals. They're leftists... progressives... and so on.

Because it makes it easier for people with limited transportation, or people with inflexible jobs (more that one gig), kids to vote. If you make it harder for people to vote you will have less Democrats casting votes. Get the plan?

I just want to hear a republican actually defend it. They seem to want to deflect to ID rather than early voting. Still have seen a defense in this thread.

DP. Do you know how utterly ridiculous you sound? No one is trying to end early voting. Two weeks is still EARLY VOTING. What about that don't you understand?

All my identifying documents have expired. Why won't you just take my word? /s

I have no reason to lie. They weren’t expired when I set out on my journey to get a new license in 2020.

I assure you: no one cares about this sob story of yours. We've all had to put up with inconveniences to renew our licenses, obtain ID, etc. You are not special, but you certainly are a whiner. From the VA DMV: "Wednesdays are now walk-in days! Walk in for service Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday (in offices with Saturday hours). Appointment-only service is available on Mondays and Fridays. Plan your visit today!"

If you can't manage that, there is something seriously wrong with your organizational skills.

One observation I love about this issue is there is all this arbitrary delineation. Like if you support two weeks of early voting, you are trying to destroy democracy, but if you support four weeks of early voting, you are a hero of the people. The whole thing has gone completely off the rails.

I have zero problem with this. I love talking guns with other gun people. They can hang out at my place and we’ll order pizza and talk about about various upgrades and accessories!

See, unlike you, I’m not afraid of seeing black guys with guns. You obviously think that’s something to fear.

The NRA was once strongly in favor of gun control because of black people open carrying.

You are an anomaly. The vast majority of your like-minded gun fetishists would freak out if this happened and you know it.

My distaste for open carry has nothing to do with skin color. This is America, not Somalia or Afghanistan. Stop trying to make us look like a lawless jurisdiction by arming legends in their own mind with weapons of mass destruction.

I wouldn’t know, I’ve never been an NRA member. I’m a JPFO, GOA and SAF member.

Go to the gun show in Chantilly sometime and you’ll see plenty of my “like minded gun fetishists” walking the show aisles right next to black guys doing the same exact thing. Gun culture doesn’t care what color you are.

That’s what’s keeping your tiny, hateful racist mind from processing it. You simply don’t understand your enemy. You only understand the cliches you parrot.

But we definitely understand you.

+100
Amazing how true racists are constantly projecting.

LOL. Dude essentially said some of his friends are black therefore he's not racist.

LOL. Sit down.

Sorry, nope. You sound like a complete moron.

Why? No one needs 45 DAYS to vote. Good grief.

YES! Exactly. And the picture of the guy carrying a rifle - in a grocery store? That's not even being proposed here, yet they still keep harping on it. Sometimes I'm just completely amazed at the idiocy.

They both expired during the pandemic. Sorry - I’ve been busy with my young kids and job. And then additional documentation after they expired.
