Okay, cool, fine, that's like, your opinion, man, but the point of my post it DOES NOT MATTER Because schools were never going to stay in-person, because omicron spreads. The end. |
Yesterday’s report (77 cases) was for cases up through 6 AM on 1/3. The 24-hour report posted today (35) was for 4 PM on 1/4 through 4 PM on 1/5. So the other 24 cases must have been reported between 6 AM on 1/3 and 4 PM on 1/4. |
Nope, you went out of your way to complain about a straw man argument. That most certainly was at least part of your point. |

Why does it always seem like Montgomery County Schools are caught flat footed? Do they not meet and talk through scenario's? What if there is big surge after the holidays? What if we don't have enough bus driver? What do we do if a whole bunch schools turn red at the same time? How will we manage lunches during a surge and cold-weather?
The list goes on and on and on. |
These are good questions. I think we all know the answer: incompetence |
me, too. On the flip side, if there are less students in class, there is more space per person, less chance of spread. My kids did ok academically with virtual, but it was certainly harder, in every way. But, we can live with a two week virtual. I'm reading that they think omicron will taper down end of January. |
As someone who has been teaching in an mcps classroom for over 20 years, I think the problem is that Central Office is made up of people who have not been in the classroom, or even worked in a school building, in a long time. People who seek these jobs did so to get out of the classroom (they will never admit it, but it’s generally true) and are just so out of touch. Every single teacher was fully expecting things to play out like this. A few “red” schools one day, an astronomical number the next, county considering changing the metric…none of it is a surprise. |
Parents are demanding schools stay in person. What do you really want them to do? |
Do better. This outcome of increased infection over Christmas was entirely foreseeable because it happened last year. They should have planned before the break and implemented a mandatory test-in policy for kids, teachers and staff returning to school after the break. |
But…. They are getting it at home and not at school!!! School has been closed!!! Hello!!! |
Be honest. Say, look we can’t make in person work for the next two weeks. Too many people are sick with covid who are necessary to make school work. So, we are going virtual for 2 weeks. We know you’ll be upset but we will earn your trust back that this was necessary but moving heaven and earth to get back in person and then do it. |
It’s a poor excuse that DCPS is capable of doing something that MCPS is not. Yes, let’s keep reducing our expectations and standards. Excellent idea. |
A few loud, annoying parents are demanding this. They see no nuance. Kids could start being hospitalized and they’d still want schools open. They don’t speak for the majority. |
I am ok with this if everything else is shut down too. NO MORE having kids locked up so thousands of adults can drink in bars and go to massive sporting events. Either we are serious about controlling this or we aren’t. I’m done having my family stay in our house forever while everyone else does what ever they want so there is no end. Tie schools to restaurants and then I’ll believe they will open back up in 2 weeks |
It won't taper down if nothing else closes. And do you really think MCPS is going to reopen quickly? Please, I think we've all seen this movie before. |
