many are queuing up for a red party at 7 pm. Not because they want to take their kids out of in-person school but because MCPS Leadership did not put an operations team in place two weeks ago to address the fine points od how the system can operate in the current circumstances which were certain and just a matter of time. if they put in a few measures to make things safer and anticipate staff shortages, we would be in a different place.

So is this how it’s going to go? Every night we sit on pins and needles to see if there is school the next day? Who thought this would be a good idea?

Honestly if it’s going to happen I’d like it to happen tonight so I can grab some airline tickets I’ve been eyeing.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but it’s worse than PG county’s approach. Now I see why many PG county parents supported the decision. They trust the system. Must be nice to have that sort of trust!!

Monifa McKnight is in charge so it’s her system and her responsibility. Just like that ridiculous quarantine policy in the fall. She owns this mess. And the BOE, of course.

It’s hard to comprehend how MCPS can be worse administratively than both DCPS and PGPS. Yet this is where we are.

All the parents who are rabidly anti-closure and made that clear to MCPS. Most teachers and administrators of MCPS prefer in-person and loathe virtual as well. It's clear none of these educators are qualified to gauge the timing and proportions of surges, even when given plenty of notice, and even when people (like me) actually tell them what's likely to happen several weeks in advance and what they should do...

The consequence is that no one is prepared.

Yes. It's a fluid situation. It changes day by day, so they have to adapt. When the surge passes, it will no longer be an issue. What's the problem?

Awful system. Terrible leadership. How are parents supposed to operate in this environment? Needing childcare on a day's notice?

I want it my way and I want it now!

Or something else like that Violet Beauregarde would say.

Yup. Ridiculous and unfathomable that anyone thought this was a good idea.

I, and others, warned you this is how it was going to go down at Christmas if MCPS didn't decide to pivot to virtual for January. A few trolls responded that they preferred being on tenterhooks every day rather than suffer in virtual. What they meant is that they, the parents, wouldn't suffer from having to stay home and see how children actually do in school. The kids are going to suffer no matter what, since they'll be packed somewhere (cafeteria, gym) with a few other classes, when those teaches are absent, and will be watched by a random staff member. The parents just won't have to SEE THAT. Which is all they care about.

And how does it work for the red schools? Do they automatically come back after 14 days...does the 14-day clock reset every day a school is over 5%...does the 14-day clock reset if a school is over 5% when the 14 days are up?

Is there planned transparency about actual cases in a 14-day window (i.e., cases 15 days ago drop off)?
