No, because teachers have to come in for the planning of transition and to teach virtual. They will have to announce that tomorrow is the planning day, and then friday is the bonus day. |
| For those say 5% is not automatic, keep in mind that they closed all 11 schools that were red yesterday. So whatever deliberation process they have clearly seems to lead to closing red schools more often than not. So, apparently the deliberation process determined that there was spread in the 11 schools which were empty for break. What a disgrace. |
| I’m sure that there were positives today. Only makes sense |
If my child’s IEP is ignored like it was during the last stent with online learning, I will be filing a state and OCR complaint. My child has not regained what was lost the first time and now his school is posed to go online. Staff last time literally wrote in report after report his needs cannot be met via an online platform. If he had COVID, that would be one thing. Of course we would quarantine him along with our entire family. But we have had him vaccinated, we did not travel during winter break, and we limit non-school socialization to keep him from catching COVID. We have given permission for the school to test him. He has no symptoms. MCPS would be preventing a healthy disabled child from receiving his accommodations and services when technically there are schools open elsewhere in the county that could provide the services and accommodations he needs. |
My kid reported to me that only 9 kids in her class showed up today. (She was estimating, so who knows, but the point is - a LOT of kids absent.) |
Yup. This is what I've been saying all week. The omicron writing was already on the wall. People kept acting like there was a real choice between "send kids to school, and maybe they get COVID, but we have to live with it now" and "go virtual*." And I kept saying the ACTUAL choice was between "go virtual now" or "send kids into a sh!tshow, watch as numbers climb and a bunch of them get COVID, only to be forced into virtual in a week or two anyway." But out come the shocked and horrified parents who I guess had been in some sort of denial for the past few weeks. *And many would not consider the possibility that was actually being offered-- virtual for 2-6 weeks max. They had to build up this strawman of an evil and untrustworthy MCPS that wants to keep kids out of school for the rest of the year and would use a few weeks of virtual as cover for their nefarious plan, because... uh... teachers just love virtual, it's not a gigantic pain in their butts and... administrators eating Pringles and bonbons all day and.... reasons... yeah. |
For our school, the 4pm and 7pm reports don’t add up. 77 cases yesterday + 35 today is only 112. MCPS now says our school now has 136. Where did the extra 24 cases come from? |
| So..... are red schools really going to open tomorrow or will there be an update later tonight? Odds? |
They. Are being. Shuttered. Because. The %. Is a proxy. For community Transmission. When you have 5% reporting cases now and that SAME METRIC was 0.5% in early December, which is all they have to compare it to, you know stuff is about to hit the fan. Because viral growth is exponential growth. That's the point. Keep schools (and yes, preferably bars and restaurants!) closed when spread in the community is very very high and rapidly increasing. Keep them open when it's not. |
NP: YES!! Thank you!!! Everyone is disappointed, but this was so clearly where things were heading which is why I kept my kids home today. Are people not following the news? |
|
We need drastic action by the state and county to SHUT DOWN bars, restaurants and malls. That's the only way to contain this.
Don't start with the schools. It's so backwards. |
Sorry, but trust has to be earned. Our kids sat at home last year for months and months for no reason. |
Ours too. We have extra cases not reported yesterday and not in the today report. |
Mine said seven were absent in a class of fifteen. I'm going to keep sending her because I think it's better for her to go, but I'm also getting ready to have her home next week. |
| Why the cherry picked 11 yesterday? And now the rest of us catch Covid and spread it? The new Superintendent is making a right 95 traffic mess of this…. |
