Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, will appear for a deposition before House committees as part of the impeachment inquiry in spite of an attempt by the Trump administration to block his testimony.

“After consultation with Committee Staff, his testimony is now scheduled for Thursday, October 17,” Sondland’s lawyer, Robert Luskin, said in a statement to NBC News on Friday.

“Notwithstanding the State Department’s current direction to not testify, Ambassador Sondland will honor the Committees’ subpoena, and he looks forward to testifying on Thursday,” Luskin said.

I happy at this news. But also am a bit skeptical. This guy is a Trump's political appointee. Will he defy Trump to tell the truth?

Sondland won't tell the truth. He is the intermediary who talked directly to Trump and Zelensky about the quid pro quo, the deliverable, the public commitment to reopen the investigations, in exchange for a WH meeting and release of the military assistance. If he tells the truth, they all go down. He will lie.

Sondland can try to parrot the "party line" but the facts associated with the texts will undermine any credibility on that front.

It is entirely possible he will implicate others to save himself.
