Vance actually served in Iraq. Walz quit before his unit went.

No one cares if he went to Iraq on desk duty. Did Vance serve for 24 years?

He's lucky his bone spurs didn't keep him away from his military service.

I think Walz is what a Urban Liberal thinks a rural dem is... Walz is that weird English teacher you had in high school. Yeah he was in the country...but he was weird.

That said how can they make his service an issue when the top of the republican ticket literally is a draft dodger!!!! I have more respect for someone who served...even if the 'quit' before being deployed than someone who just got off on daddy's dime.

I really don't want to hear anyone question his 24 years of service...which was longer than the service of the top of the ticket!

This is madness.

PP here...I think he was the wrong pick. This election will be won by convincing never trumpers like me to vote for Harris....and this was a bad pick.

Do they think their voters are idiots who won’t find out the facts?

Right after Harris announced that Walz would be her running mate, Vance had a speech where he said the following:

Kamala Harris is running as a San Francisco liberal, she has governed as a San Francisco liberal, and she’s chosen a running mate who will be a San Francisco-style liberal

So, any news saying that Walz is a San Francisco liberal are paraphrasing (incorrectly) Vance's statement. It has been pointed out that Walz only visited SF recently (like a week or two ago) whereas Vance actually lived in SF from 2013-2017. So, Vance is much more familiar with SF style politics and living in SF that Walz.

They ignore that she was a prosecutor and DA who, you know, enforced the law.

That’s nice. I’m sure he appreciates that. You can donate to his gubernatorial re-election campaign and maybe he’ll run for the White House in 2032 and you can vote for him then.

By saying 2032, you are automatically assuming that if Harris/Walz wins, we are stuck with them for two terms until 2032?? Not happy with that either.

He didn’t grow up in San Francisco!

He is from Nebraska and went to West Point.

No, the town in Nebraska he’s from is West Point.

Weird?

He was a teacher that everyone admired and the Defensive coach for a state championship football team.

If that is weird, then what is normal?

You would say that about any Democratic pick. I’m sorry the GOP went off the rails and became a cult of personality. The Dems just can’t become Regan republicans to attract you.

If you don't like Walz then you won't like anyone.

And actually, the dems win when they turn out THEIR voters. Yes, there should be a broad coalition, and the fact that so many traditional conservatives are lining up to support Harris is an indication that she is building that coalition.

Then work on getting rid of Trump and MAGA.

This is a traditional left of center democratic ticket.

When Minnesota governor Tim Walz chose to leave the military on the eve of his deployment to Iraq, Thomas Behrends went in his place.

“I needed to hit the ground running and take care of the troops — and tell them we were going to war,” said Behrends of the 500 soldiers under his command. “For a guy in that position to quit is cowardice.”

Behrends, a 63-year-old farmer in Brewster, MN, called the Democratic vice-presidential candidate “a traitor” for retiring from their Minnesota National Guard unit just before their deployment to Iraq in 2005.

“When your country calls, you are supposed to run into battle — not the other way,” the retired command sergeant major told The Post Tuesday. “He ran away. It’s sad.

“He had the opportunity to serve his country, and said ‘screw you’ to the United States. That’s not who I would pick to run for vice-president.”

“On May 16th, 2005, [Walz] quit, betraying his country, leaving the 1-125th Field Artillery Battalion and its Soldiers hanging without its senior Non-Commissioned Officer, as the battalion prepared for war,” Behrends and fellow retired Guardsman Paul Herr wrote in a letter posted to Facebook during Walz’s first gubernatorial run, in 2018.

Behrends and Herr wrote that Walz could have requested permission from the Pentagon to seek Congressional office while on active duty.

When Walz left the unit, he offered to raise funds to cover his fellow soldiers’ bus trips home for Christmas — a gesture that was seen as a cynical ploy by some of them, according to Behrends.

“If it were me, I would feel guilty about leaving and do something to make up for it, but if you ask me he was doing it to buy votes,” Behrends told The Post. “He will do anything for votes.”

The unit spent 17 months in Iraq and suffered three casualties, including Kyle Miller, a 19-year-old from Willmar, MN.

Ah, the ol' swift boat strategy. You're backing President bonespurs who calls veterans losers and suckers. Sorry, this dog won't hunt. Walz is a breath of fresh air and it must tick you off how much joy and excitement this ticket brings.

They tried this when he ran for governor. It’s hard to argue that a guy that served for TWENTY FOUR years is a traitor.

Considering Minnesota has not voted for a republican for president since 1972 it’s no surprise that Minnesota is cool with a man who abandoned his troops on the brink of going to war. We will see if the rest of the country is so forgiving.

Shapiro’s intro last night was…intense. Dark warrior energy mashed with Obama’s rhetorical style a little much. Lots of “I…I…I.” Apparently he was too self-interested in his KH interview. KH felt Walz would play better in a supporting role and loved his happy warrior energy. He was the staff favorite too.

WTF does this mean? I have only ever heard it applied to Walz, and only in the past week. It sounds like some hippy crap, is it supposed to be viral branding? Walz’s biggest brand for the ticket is pragmatism, and this seems at odds with that.

You’ve really never heard the term “happy warrior” before?
