Guys, my family was pretty wealthy growing up. My dad could’ve easily afforded to put $1 million toward a music career. Guess what. Even if he did, I seriously doubt I’d be worth 2 billion by age 36 and I seriously doubt I would’ve had the biggest tour we will ever see for generations.

There are millions and millions and millions of kids who don’t amount to any successful career in the industry yet have supportive parents who are trying to make their dreams come true and investing time and money in them. But it’s a one in 10 million chance that you end up with a long-term, lucrative and successful career, and for Taylor’s level of success it’s more like one in a billion.
Plus 1. How many kids go to fantastic colleges because they’re dads can afford to send them there or the kids that don’t have the grades to get in but their dads donated a lot to the school and they get in.

Yep, I’m sure tons of parents that we don’t hear about our pouring money into their kids to become famous, weather it’s America idol or whatever to make their dreams come true but they aren’t Taylor so the hater jealousy people that think she doesn’t write her own songs had to find something else wrong with her

By Taylor’s own admission, mom is her therapist and matchmaker and according to many, Dad is still stepping in to solve her business and legal problems.

I don’t think her fans are remotely able to be objective about her. You “guys” are too stuck in Taylor worship to think that she isn’t solely responsible for her success. You are willing to insult people who point out inconsistencies in your theories and willing to defend capitalism to keep you from questioning your beliefs about her.

Most normal parents, even though they are supporting their kid on American Idol, aren’t arranging secret parties for their teenager to generate interest, or creating a web page about their 12 year old daughter to support her music career. They exploited her, even if at 12 she said she wanted to do it. I can’t imagine doing that to a tween. Even beyond that, most parents aren’t buying up their child’s albums or have the savvy to negotiate business contracts for their child or claiming that they are their child’s therapist.

Mom is her matchmaker? You guys must be fun if you’re hanging on to that now. She was being playful because her mom helped with the Travis thing not most of her boyfriends. You just want to hate and her because you want to be her.

Oh, my. You missed the point completely. She has talent and stage presence and the ‘it’ factor and if it was so easy to manipulate the system by throwing parties to generate interest and have their kid become famous and rich lots would do it but they aren’t Taylor.
Acting like Taylor has nothing to do with her success is not just naive, it’s a very dumb take

Wow. Why does it bother you so much that her mom set her up with Travis?

They made up a cute story about it for some reason but, really, it was her mom.

You sound angry about the love life of a stranger, and you do not know if she was being playful or not because you do not know Taylor Swift.

These people sound young or maybe they are bots. Either way, they sound quite taken w Taylor and very defensive and can’t look at the situation with objectivity.

It’s interesting to see how quickly some of them resort to insults and it’s like how the president acts when someone does not agree with him. He resorts to insults, which is a weak attempt at argument.

Huh. I haven't bought any of her albums. None, nada, zilch. Yet I still listen to her music on Spotify. Tell me again how I've been "milked"?

She has bragged about her Spotify numbers so you are helping. Doesn’t she earn money from those plays? Do you pay for Spotify? Even if you do not lay, Swift is earning money. Daddy made sure of that.

NP. She recorded them to devalue her old masters. Duped her fans into buying them with the sob story that they were bought out from under her. Gotta hand it to the petty b****.

Are the feminists still here with us? Or are we just giving up the ruse that they were ever for women?

Wait a minute- are you saying you can only be a feminist if you support Taylor? Or only if you support all women regardless of principle?

Or are you saying you bought into her grift that by buying her albums again again you were support women against big bad men?

I don’t need to support all women when I disagree with them principle nor do I have to support Taylor swift to be a feminist. Why (other than you bought her crap) would you ever think you have to support all women even if you disagree with them?

NP. No one is forcing you to buy her music so I don’t get where the animosity is coming from. I’ve never purchased a single item but still like her music. It’s possible. But to your other point, yeah kind of. If no one is getting hurt and it’s all just a business model that hurts no one but you just happen to disagree with, yeah I still think women should support women who are changing the status quo. And she has and did. They literally teach business law classes based on her approach. I think any feminist would support that success, as well as her advice and help she gives to upcoming artists. But whatever.

I have read she has actually hurt up coming artists with the way her handled the business. Here is a law school talking about how contracts have changed for the worse for artists because of how Taylor’s team handled the situation. She just made the system more capitalist.

https://uclawreview.org/2024/03/27/look-what-you-made-them-do-the-impact-of-taylor-swifts-re-recording-project-on-record-labels/

And Harvard: https://hls.harvard.edu/today/how-taylor-swift-changed-the-copyright-game-by-remaking-her-own-music/

In response, record companies are now trying to prohibit re-recordings for 20 or 30 years, not just two or three. And this has become a key part of contract negotiations. “Will they get 30 years? Probably not, if the lawyer is competent. But they want to make sure that the artist’s vocal cords are not in good shape by the time they get around to re-recording.”
This, he noted, begged the question of why an artist would even want to sign a record contract in the age of TikTok and Spotify. “Number one, there is the pride involved. If you were The Who in the ’60s, you could trash a hotel room and the label would clean up the mess. Of course it would come out of future royalties, but they would do it. But what you have to ask yourself is, is it worth it?”
This may not be an issue for most artists who sign to record labels — but it likely will be for a select few.
“Very few people have the power of a Taylor Swift, but nobody knows who the next Taylor Swift will be,” Greenstein said. “So, if you are a lawyer, you will represent your client zealously.”

Not that many artists have a stock broker/ financial analyst as a Dad who is backing their career. Taylor was able to have her career because of her Dad’s money. Apparently he even helped negotiate Taylor out of the Blake Lively court case. I don’t see that as particularly feminist.

What’s 100% anti feminist is continuing to give her father credit for her career, over and over and over.

Amen to that! She has her own team of lawyers, accountants, etc - who work for HER. So funny that the PP actually thinks she's a little girl whose daddy needs to come to her rescue.

Her dad hires them. They work for the family. TS is a family business.

Ohhh... it's all becoming so clear now.

It’s probably some freak from the Beyhive on the loose. Or the weirdo husband trolling.

Well, he took credit for it in that letter when he also talked about his private parts not working.

He ran a bizas a stockbroker. TS did not come from the womb understanding how to become a pop star.

Her daddy paid her way ($1m or more he wrote) and even bought a lot of her early albums.

It is not anti-woman to point out the work that he himself says he did. She would be nothing without her dad.

Her parents have controlled her for a long time.

Are you a Beyonce fan by chance?

Not the person you are arguing with, but at least maintain consistency with the argument you are presenting (That “Taylor is a feminist and pro all women and all women should stand up for each other”) and not bring up other women to compare her too in the middle of that argument.

Make it make a little bit of sense.

DP. You have totally missed the point, as expected.

Explain it to me then. Without throwing Beyoncé’s name out there and saying Beyoncé is controlled by her family and husband because that is comparing two very successful women and not upholding the swiftie bro code of no women can be for women’s rights and criticize a successful woman. I’d love to know the argument.

I mean, Beyonce married her groomer yet people take issue with Taylor’s love life. Please.

I’d like to see how much hockey parents invest in their hockey players. This return on investment is not remotely typical.
