That timing probably comes from teaching social studies. I don't know what grade, but as a single subject teacher who was also a coach, most likely high school. Social studies sounds like a decent background for a politician, means knowing some things about the country, about its government, and about how that plays out in real life. I heard or read that he ran for Congress having something to do with what kids he was teaching were saying in reference to current politics or some particular politician. (Wellstone was a college professor before serving 2 terms in the Senate and being killed in a plane crash shortly before the 2002 election.) People saying MN is a progressive liberal state. Minnesota last voted for a Republican candidate in 1972. In the northeast mining country the unions were still strong. To the west rural communities still carried on the traditions laid down by FDR. Now, in the east the former union hall that was a major social center as well as I grew up is no longer a union hall. The area is not West Virginia or Detroit bad, but it has declined and shifted to Trump. Bemidji, in the middle, was the site of a Trump rally in 2020. In the Northeast is District 8. From 1947 to 2019 there were only 2 years when it had a GOP representative. The district flipped from voting for Dem presidential candidates to Trump in 2016. District 7 was always more conservative, but blue dog Democrat Collin Peterson has the seat for 30 years. Then Al Franken was forced to resign, and the Lt Governor was appointed to his seat. Under state law Michele Fishbach, a conservative, became Lt governor and then unseated Peterson. I haven't followed this closely but she was endorsed by Trump this year but then challenged by an "America First" Republican. She didn't win the endorsement but I don't know what that means in terms of who is on the ballot. Trump has apparently been wanting to push Minnesota to the red. He's made 3 trips to the state that I know of. So even if it is not a swing state in terms of electoral votes, there is definitely some symbolism going on there. |

Can someone explain why Fox Mews and Trump keep calling Tim Walz a San Francisco liberal when he grew up in Nebraska and is now the governor of Minnesota?

Right after Harris announced that Walz would be her running mate, Vance had a speech where he said the following:
So, any news saying that Walz is a San Francisco liberal are paraphrasing (incorrectly) Vance's statement. It has been pointed out that Walz only visited SF recently (like a week or two ago) whereas Vance actually lived in SF from 2013-2017. So, Vance is much more familiar with SF style politics and living in SF that Walz. |
