With Love, Meghan on Netflix

This thread is great because one person will be like “that’s fun - my kids would love a fruit rainbow!” and then 30 replies come in with 5 paragraph tirades of increasingly unhinged reasons why it’s wrong to enjoy MM’s fruit rainbow (bad knife skills to her kids don’t exist).

Huh? I haven’t seen that at all.

It's hard to figure out who the audience is for this. Women who are successful in business already have advisors and do not need Mrghan's podcast to advise them. Your average mom or non entrepreneur professional is not looking for advice about starting a business.

I can see Meghan doing something like interviewing Sheryl Sandberg and claiming that she "leans in" on her business venture of jams, cake mixes and dog biscuits. If she is as lazy as she was with the last podcast the new pod will probably be a brief one. It just doesn't seem like a successful business owner would need advice from Meghan.

Isn't her legal name Rachel Markle? Megan is her middle name. That's not really cosplaying.

The point is her legal name is not actually Sussex as was claimed in a huge moment on the show.

She didn't make any claim about her legal name, she just stated that she identifies as "Sussex" not Markle. And then provided an explanation as to why. The fact that some of you are flipping out about this says much more about you than her.

I don't even think it was a "huge moment" on the show. It was a very brief conversation. YOU have made it a huge moment because for some reason it's very important to you that Meghan be forced to use her maiden name forever even if she doesn't want to, which is deranged.

But it's not her maiden name, lol. It's her current legal name, and the name of her kids as well. They have "Markle" on their birth certificate. At no point did she ever change their name to Sussex, which would be very bizarre considering it's no one's legal name in the family.

It is definitively her maiden name. Some women keep their maiden name. It sounds like Meghan does not want to keep hers but that there may be an issue with what she changes it to because the naming conventions in her husband's family are weird.

But I don't think it would be "bizarre" in that situation to simply legally change everyone's last name to Sussex.

This is actually a relatable problem to me because I had issues with my name when I got married and it was also hard to get people to call me by my new name (hyphenated) because people are stubborn and weird. The whole thing winds up being political and annoying when, hello, it's my name and you should call me what I tell you my name is. I did ultimately change my name legally but it took a while and in the meantime, I 100% expected people to call me by my newly adopted name, not my maiden name. So I'm totally on Meghan's side here. It is not some "gotcha" that her chosen name may not be her legal name. That's paperwork. Call people what they ask to be called or GTFO.

In any case, it is her current name, and the current name of her children. There is no legal precedent for her to change her name to Sussex. Of course she could, in the same way I could march down to the courthouse and change mine to Sussex. But it would be pretty bizarre of both myself and MM to do that considering it's not our legal name in any sense.

No, it would be normal for the Duchess of Sussex to change her and her kid's legal US names to Sussex as a way to simplify their names. People often make choices like this when navigating marital name conflicts or immigration naming issues.

It would be totally deranged for you to do so, as you are not the Duchess of Sussex.

I think this is why you are so mad, actually.

Considering that Sussex is NOT a last name and the name of a geographical area, yes it would be pretty deranged. But yeah, maybe everyone should just change their name to it and we can all have a good laugh.

The point is Meghan herself claimed that her name is Sussex. But ahe apparently does not use the name legally? It is very weird. I am going to change my name to "Princess Diana" but not legally. It will just be the name I declare for myself.

The difference here is that Meghan legally owns a title, the Duchess of Sussex, and many other people who have had the titles Duke of and Duchess of have used the house name as their surname, so Meghan does as well. Whereas you are not a Princess and your name is not Diana. So what Meghan is doing is normal and in keeping with the traditions of her husband's family, whereas you calling yourself Princess Diana would be psychotic.

And again, I think that's what bothers you. Meghan is actually entitled to style herself as Meghan Sussex because she is, in fact, the Duchess of Sussex. Just as other members of that family have done for years. But you aren't entitled to do so because you aren't a Duchess. This obviously makes you very, very mad for some reason.

OK I understand being entitled to use a name. I am married and could use my husband's name, but my legal name is still my maiden name. I do nor go around correcting people and saying my husband's name is my actual name. The reason I don't do that is his name is not my actual, legal name.

So the point remains that "Sussex" is not her legal name according to any documents. Her legal name is "Markle." So she lied about her name being Sussex. The point of lying was to have a "gotcha" moment with Mindy Kaling.

Lied about her name? Are you insane? EVERYONE knows her name. Meghan Markle Sussex whatever has out white womaned (yes made this up), white women. She is able to live the most white womanly life ever, while still enjoying the benefits being a POC. It is driving some of you crazy. Let this woman live.

Honey, what you don't get is that she doesn't want to live - she wants an audience and applause. She is addicted to attention.

Honey , let’s say that’s true. Why are the haters giving it to her? Why not just ignore her? Most actors want an audience and applause, why is her craving it so unique? That’s what’s weird here. Plenty of celebrities do exactly what she’s doing, but don’t garner nearly the same hate? Why is that? Genuinely curious. What about her perceived “addiction to attention” make white women so angry? Singly out white women, because no other race of women GAF about her or whatever it is she’s doing.

The obvious answer is her race. Why? Because plenty of women of both races do what she’s doing to gain fame and fortune, but of none of them is a black woman who married the most eligible man in the planet (at that time).

No, it's not obviously race. It's that she contradicts herself constantly and she is not genuine. That's it.

You've described 99% of all celebrities. That's why we all think it's just racism. Because nothing else explains this bizarre obsession with someone so irrelevant. Why is she such a lightening rod? It is bizarre. Everyone in the royal family is pointless and weird, but only Meghan inspires this level of hate.

It's the whining. Most people can't listen to that level of martyrdom from a semi-successful actress who then married a prince. If she was suffering verbal or emotional abuse, by all means get out of the UK and strike out on your own. But average people aren't receptive to someone like that complaining over and over again. It's too much.

Forgive me if I'm missing something, but when people talk about her whining over and over, what does this refer to? The Oprah interview? I admit I only watched like 10 minutes of it but it didn't come off as whiny to me. Has she given other interviews? The only other public statement I know of on the matter was Harry's book, but that's him, not her, right?

I don't follow her closely and just watched a few episodes of this show and thought it was okay, not amazing. She is awkward and it seems a bit forced but the show is very pretty and some of the ideas are good. Has she done a bunch of interviews where she complains about stuff with his family? Is she still talking about it in interviews? I honestly don't now.

Oprah, the book, she mentioned it on her Africa charity tour, her People magazine interview promoting this new show alluded to it, the first episode of her show said Daniel was here for "the before, during, and after, shall we say." These are just a few examples. It comes up almost any time she has a public platform. I think if she would finally drop it, people would move on.

So by "drop it" you mean never mention something that literally everyone knows happened? Because those examples are not "whining." They are acknowledgments or small allusions to what was no doubt a stressful time for her and her family. You want her to pretend it didn't happen at all? I don't get that. That seems more fake than what she does, which is occasionally reference it in a non-whining way.

I think Meghan is super fake and a hot mess, but I love her because she is so dang narcissistic and relentless that she keeps. on. going. It's admirable in a way.

She's like the evil villain that won't give up, so you get to enjoy the show longer.

Truly, people should be giving her props. She's a great heel.

Aren't you supposed to have launched a successful business first? Is she just going to have failed women entreprenuers to commiserate with or will she sit at their knee and learn?

I personally can't afford Jenni Kayne but am finding the commentary in this thread that Meghan is out of touch for wearing an expensive sweater hilarious. Earlier today someone started a thread asking for summer dress recs and more than half if them are in the $300+ range, which I think is pricey. But that's considered normal on DCUM because it's a lot of high income people. But if you're Meghan apparently its tone deaf? Ok.

It’s really not normal in lifestyle programming to leave in the final edit someone getting ass-kissed for her lewk, pretending to not understand the slang, tittering modestly into her palm, and then citing extremely expensive stuff (Loro Piana). It’s at odds with what she wants to project, which is modesty. Martha Stewart did not give a solitary damn, so she could have happily snapped “Hermes, Zoran, Rei Kawakubo” and that would have been consistent. She wouldn’t have been acting like she was in The Mikado.

The objection is to how fake it all is. Martha is a real one, by which I mean a real B. And people eventually liked her for it. You gotta be what you are. If Meghan leaned into her villain era she’d gain more genuine admirers.

+1 She had a nice enough growing up experience, she's a graduate of Northwestern, she married a prince, has a 14 million dollar home, and two precious kids. Count your blessings, girl!!! No more whining!!!

And I think most people would be able to take stock of that and go live their best life. But she just can't let the RF drama go. To me, her need to be a victim is the strongest evidence that she is a narcissist according to diagnostic criteria. Mentally healthy people are able to move on, but she just can't, and she probably think if she spins the story enough times that people will eventually realize she was "right." Whereas normal people would realize that reliving that chapter of life isn't doing her any favors.

Meghan literally whined with teary eyes that no one had asked if she was ok in an interview with Tom Bradby during her lone South Africa royal visit, where she was technically just off visiting people far, far less fortunate than she. No one in a similar position on the world stage has behaved like that, because “royalty” is a kind of public persona that does not compare to other celebrity. She is a remorselessly self-centered person and this show is very much her, innit?

Thank you for asking. Not many people have asked if I'm okay.

That trip... lying about Archie being kept separate from her when there was a house fire in the "subpar" housing provided for them on the trip. The "Not many people have asked if I'm okay" after literally spending the day with HIV infected mothers who live in poverty. JESUS THIS IS WHY NO ONE LIKES HER.

She’s like that DOGE idiot who was recording and posting her awkward fits for resale on government time as she intermittently wrote communiques regarding the need for massive layoffs. Meghan and McLaurine Pinochet or whatever the bimbo’s name is have a ton in common.

Meghan’s entire show is meant to show off her Coastal Grandmaw threads and dated Cartier stack. The podcast will be, As Ever, clueless and solipsistic.

I think you have to be able to let something go after 5 years. If she needs to process what happened in therapy (or if Harry likes talking about it with her), fine. But from a PR perspective, it isn't helpful for her business endeavors or public persona. You don't see the difference?

You are arguing two different things.

The "something" you want Meghan to let go is being rejected by her husband's family, attacked in the tabloids in the UK for every tiny thing including stuff like eating avocados or touching her baby bump, and then having said family refuse to defend it support her even as some members of the family said racially insensitive things about both Meghan and her baby behind her back. And now, due to these issues as well as long simmering conflicts in Harry's family, they have almost no relationship with Harry's family and Meghan is personally blamed for the rift by many in the family and in the media in the UK, with many in the media openly rooting for this couple with two very young children to divorce. I think it is perfectly reasonable for someone to have not "let that go," especially when some of it is still ongoing.

But sure, yes, it would probably be good for her from a PR perspective to act totally unbothered by it and as though all is well, as the rest of Harry's family does. It's always better, reputationally, to act as though you are above the fray and that if people dislike you or say unkind things about you, it doesn't matter. This is very difficult though.
