Hayfield cheaters gambled and lost.

I had thought it was all over after last VHSL appeal, but with right now every football division in West VA being held up by injunctions and lawsuits- their state playoffs postponed- clearly anything possible.

Do you think lawsuits like this will happen more now that college players can receive money? Will we start to see as much play in courtrooms as on fields? Is this why people care?

Lawsuits require two things- money and cognizable claim. I'd be curious to see where hayfield is getting the money. If it's FCPS, a line from Reid to the attorney's arguing the case needs to be drawn and everyone oking along the way needs to be fired

FCPS has attorneys on their payroll.

If actually filed, the court papers will list the attorneys submitting. For as ugly as this one has been and looks to get, assume outside counsel if being done.

It's there. Attorney is John Cafferky.

When money is involved, more litigation will follow. Money has been making its way into high school sports, under the surface all over the country. And of course money is involved with where students end up in college as 3 or 4 star recruits.

NSMT is reporting on the injunction with decision tomorrow. It seems like the decision could go either way. 50/50 odds.

What court? I don't see any Cafferky here, but I do see he's from the expensive firm FCPS uses regularly: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/circuitcourtdocket/

I see something, but plaintiff is not FCPS but DM et. al. Case details show at least two plaintiffs with Cafferky representing. Case is CL-2024-0015938

Per what's there, "Order-Appearance before Calendar Control Judge-Order ENTERED. Plaintiff's request to schedule an emergency hearing on Plaintiff's Motion for Preliminary Injunction-GRANTED. Set hearing on Plaintiff's Motion for Preliminary Injunction before MAC on 11/15/24 at 2pm for a 1 hour hearing. Briefs and supporting documents must be filed no later than 1pm on 11/14/24. (MAC)"

There's also CL-2024-0015559 which looks like they're suing for damages not looking for an injunction.

And the games (because this will affect the whole state, right?) start at 7 pm?

$$$$$$$, but perhaps the cost analysis has been the cost of the appeals and taking this injunction forward v cost of defending what would have been multiple lawsuits from the Hayfield player families and others if FCPS had not taken this approach.

So they've decided Robinson families will be less litigious?

I can't imagine being a regular student at Hayfield, like all those kids denied senior night, with these crazy transfer families taking up all the air in the room.

I know very little about Fairfax Circuit Court procedure nor VA state law in general, but my guess is the initial case was filed on 11/4 or 11/5, which is before the case was "ripe," meaning VHSL hadn't even finished its administrative procedures when that lawsuit was initially filed.

I just went back to the page to look (I think that's not true) and now neither case that showed up before when you searched 'Virginia High School' shows up, neither does anything by the 2 case numbers mentioned above...

Who were the named plaintiffs? Perhaps they just got a settlement.
