| What are the odds Trump invites these Catholic frat boy Kavanaugh-wannabes to the White House to celebrate male victimhood? |
Hang on a second. People are specifically upset and horrified by these kids because they were insulting or mocking a Native American man while he was performing. They surrounded him, supposedly, and were mokcing his singing. Blackface has nothing to do with that incident. So stop talking about blackface. The Haka cheer: maybe you don't like the haka cheer, but lots of people do at sports events. So now... is your complaint that some kids did the Haka cheer? Or is it that they did the haka cheer in response to having a Native American man come up to them, singing? Because if you think they were offensive because they did the Haka cheer in response to a man coming up to them singing -- guess what, no problem!!! They did the Haka cheer BEFORE he decided to enter their group. They started around 1:10:00 of this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQyBHTTqb38 At 1:12 they finished another cheer and most of them took a knee. At 1:12:15 Mr Phillips showed up banging his drums, walking past empty stairs if he wanted to walk to the top of the monument, BTW, and stood in front and drummed for them. At 1:13 the kids were chanting WITh him. Joining in. It is in no way apparent to me that the kids were mocking him. |
1. Who called a woman a slut? 2. Reminder: Phillips approached the group. They did not approach him. Nor did they surround him. The "standoff" you referenced was precipitated by Phillips. 3. The kid that yelled that has not been confirmed to be a student at the school. Don't you wonder why the video was cropped as another kid was yelling, "He is not a....." Are we going to have another social media shaming event with a lack of information? You have quite the audacity to call the school "rotten" when I bet you have never visited the school. Hell, I will go out on a limb and say you have probably never been to Kentucky. |
I've watched all the videos. The one that struck me shows a different group of (probably Catholic school) kids who actually do pray while being heckled by the black Hebrews. Instead acting like out-of-control neanderthals, they go up and listen and talk respectfully to the men who were screaming vile things at them. A young woman, perhaps their chaperone, tells them "we love you" and then they leave quietly. No jumping up an down. No jeering and yelling. That, my friend, is a group that is truly witnessing their faith. I don't agree with them about criminalizing abortion, but I respect the way they behaved. I would submit that a group like that has a much more profoundly positive effect on people's views of the anti-abortion movement than the jeering screaming students from Covington. I would also suggest the Covington school looks inward and think about why their students did not emulate that sort of truly Christian behavior. |
already did, according to twitter. |
Such denial. The kids painted their faces (and bodies) black FFS. You are seriously arguing that’s ok? And there are clearly chops in the video. You tu^rds are pretty stupid so maybe it’s not too surprising that you missed all of that. |
And invites Kavanaugh to meet them. |

I am a liberal, not a moderate. I was disgusted by this story when it first came out. Now that I see all the videos, I see a typical teen, low level of misbehavior among the boys. They should NOT have engaged with the crazy street preacher. I don't know why they did their stupid spirit chant. A couple of them--and I have no way of knowing if the rape comment kid is from the Covington group --said some nasty, inappropriate things. The smirk boy should have stepped aside like all his friends did. But none of these transgressions live up to the way it was represented in the media!!! All of you who continue to act like they acted like neo-nazis are hurting our hurting our cause and killing our credibility!
Nobody hates Trump and the horrible MAGA hats more than I do. (I think the hats are what made me believe the story from moment one.) But please stop making this into something it isn't. |
If you think that is an insult, LOL. Still stinging from the last SCOTUS nomination we see. I would be thrilled if he did. They did nothing wrong. They have been treated like crap by people like you. |

No. No. No.
The haka is not a "cheer" for random White kids in the US to do against rival football teams, crazy Black Hebrews, or anybody. Some of my family members (by marriage) are Maori. The haka is a source of great pride for the Maori people and for all New Zealanders and it's offensive to have outsiders try to mimic the haka. While it is used by their national rugby team at test matches against other countries, note that other countries don't do a haka back at them. They stand respectfully while the All Blacks team does its haka, and then the teams play. The Maori language is actually an official language there, and their parliament has specific seats that must be held by Maori in order to promote their inclusion at all levels of government. They've managed to deal with race relations in such a way that most New Zealanders (except for the old farts) embrace the Maori culture and traditions and celebrate them as a core part of NZ culture. As a result, kiwis of any race would consider the haka to be theirs. It's quite cool. I don't want to sugar coat all the race issues, but they're light years away from us here in the US. Anyway, those who have nothing to do with NZ or Maori people should really just not do a haka. Just stop. "The haka is a type of ancient M?ori war dance traditionally used on the battlefield, as well as when groups came together in peace. Haka are a fierce display of a tribe's pride, strength and unity. Actions include violent foot-stamping, tongue protrusions and rhythmic body slapping to accompany a loud chant. The words of a haka often poetically describe ancestors and events in the tribe's history. Today, haka are still used during M?ori ceremonies and celebrations to honour guests and show the importance of the occasion. This includes family events, like birthdays and weddings. Haka are also used to challenge opponents on the sports field. You may have seen a haka performed by New Zealand’s All Blacks before a rugby match? You’ll probably agree that it’s a terrifying sight to behold!" https://www.newzealand.com/int/feature/haka/ |
+1 PP who keeps insisting that blackface is ok is an ignorant jerk. |
When I see post like this, I smell desperation. The whole "these boys mocked a Native American Vietnam Veteran" story has fallen apart. You folks are grasping at something - anything - to vilify these students. Why? We know damn well why. These are kids. Minors. And, you folks seem to think it is just fine to treat them like $hit and ruin the rest of their childhoods and, frankly, the rest of their lives. Get a grip. Think about what you are doing. It is totally shameful. |
No, genius. Blackface is not ok. The kids in the picture were not in blackface. Their WHOLE BODIES WERE BLACK BECAUSE IT WAS A BLACKOUT GAME. That is NOT the same as mocking African Americans. You, my friend, are the ignorant jerk. |
If they had apologized for acting like asses, the whole thing would have gone away. Instead they doubled down on hate and that they are victims and that just puts it over the edge. |
Give me a break. The Haka cheer is not the same thing as a Tomahawk chop, which several of the boys were clearly doing in response to an indigenous person singing a traditional chant while beating a traditional drum. Also the Haka cheer comes from a sacred war dance of the Maori people. Many find it very disrespectful that people who are not of Maori descent have adopted it for their sports. It would be good if the boys were to meet with indigenous people to discuss cultural appropriation and what that means. Also anyone who doesn't know in 2018 that white people should just avoid painting their face black for any reason must be living under a rock. |
