Suppose it is a school closure. What haven't they done that would be required by law? |
| Again, I am totally against H. I was hoping for some passionate arguments to be made about how Wootton needs to stay Wootton. Not hearing anything like that and this way worse than I thought. Several pages back a couple of Churchill people jumped into this thread. I could feel their school pride coming through in their posts. Could we get at least a little of that here? Or is this all about commute times and new buildings? People in the walkable neighborhoods didn't pay extra for a 10 minute walk to high school. They paid extra for a 10 minute walk to Wootton High School. At least they did at one time. I was hoping that could still be the case. Can someone at least get the band to strike up a rendition of the Wootton Fight song? Or are a bunch of people going to respond that they were unaware that Wootton even had a fight song? |
Everything? They haven’t even given public notice of a formal closure. They haven’t formally articulated why the closing is necessary. There’s been no publically available impact study on educational impact on students, transportation studies, less disruptive solutions etc. There’s also no formal meaningful community engagement on closure of Wootton (engagement on boundary study is a separate thing and doesn’t count). Literally nothing has been done. Look, ultimately, MCPS of course has the right to close any public school BUT that’s only if they follow the law. |
Not PP, but just wanted to add—this type of action by MCPS should be alarming to everyone. You cannot close a school without following the law. Think of the precedent. If this can happen to Wootton, it can happen to any school. Damascus? Magruder… maybe they’ll close those schools next. |
Of course they can close a school |
Have you read any of the above? Yes no shit MCPS can legally close a school. But to legally close a school you have to follow the legal procedures and processes to close a school. It’s like say of course the police can arrest people. Yea no shit. But they need probable cause. (Unless of course you are an ICE goon—so I’m guessing you must support ICE? Procedures and protections don’t matter right?) |
The people on this thread are so dumb, I sometimes just cannot. Trolls be trolling. Not the PP but can you learn to read? They literally said, and I quote “ Look, ultimately, MCPS of course has the right to close any public school BUT that’s only if they follow the law.” |
Definitely just trolls and they keep repeating the same comments. They don’t care what people seriously wrote and they just keep repeating throughout pages and pages the same thing |
How this thread is going: 1. They aren’t closing Wootton! 2. Wait maybe they are? Who knows—I certainly don’t know. 3. Wait they are closing Wootton but they have already done their legal due diligence right? 4. Yes they have! O wait I don’t even know what MCPS has to do according to STATE MANDATED LAW before it can close one of its public schools. 5. Someone lists specific things MCPS must do before it can close a school. 6. Conclusion: “Of CoUrSe ThEy CaN cLoSe A sChOoL” Either trolls are trolling or yall lack some fundamental basic reading comprehension and logical reasoning—which if that’s the case, lol this is why we can’t close schools |
What laws are there in closing a school? They aren’t closing it they are moving it. You have nothing of substance and cannot propose any reasonable solutions. Just complain. |
| Can they simply add a “W” to the new school? |
You paid for a home. There was no guarantee of a specific school so that was your failure and those advocating. |
This comment took me out. Welcome to WCrown High School 🤣. |

If option H is installed, the older town houses value will collapse. The new development near Wootton wok loose value.
There needs to be stronger protest from the community. Not enough protest was going on when Horizon Hills, next to Wootton, was rezoned. Not environmental friendly either. |
| There needs to be a broader community protest. Led by ppl who understand the big picture. Not easy. |
