Per Punchbowl Social (IDK who they are but they seem to have ppl in the room reporting to them) re the meeting happening now - “McCarthy comes back to the idea of clean CR with disaster aid
Member: “Now McCarthy is backtracking, wants to do a clean CR with disaster.” McCarthy himself can’t seem to hold the line on a clean CR. What’s this disaster aid for? |
Just saw this on twitter:
New: @GOPMajorityWhip telling House Republicans there is no path for a CR, no 14 day, no 30 day, no 45 day, there are six no’s on any CR |
Yes. No one really cares about the other departments. They should. |
NEWS - House Rs gonna offer a 45 day CR with disaster aid but NO Ukraine funding.
On suspension, will look for Dem support. @SteveScalise says this will be on the floor “shortly” |
ugh. well it’s down to only six, at least. had been more. |
Good news. |
This is it folks. If this one fails we are shutting down - at least for a day - bc I doubt any other alternative gets to the floor today. Actually even if this passes we prob shutdown as I doubt they can get a senate vote asap. |
In contrast to what Emmer said above? (Majority Whip) |
Doesn’t this just seem like a blame shifting move? If/when this fails in either the House or Senate - GOP gets to say, WE wanted to keep govt open for us, but it’s the Dems more worried about Ukraine than the US. |
Who knows - both Emmers statement and this 45 day CR news came from the same meeting. Is the Freedom Caucus over its budget cuts? I mean it’d be one think if it were a clean CR but CR + disaster aide doesn’t seem clean to me. |
I don’t disagree. But I think that a necessary number of House Ds would be ok with this. Same in the Senate. |
A lot of Dems would have to support this. |
Could be. But I also think it’s a legitimate effort to keep govt open and avoid a shutdown that goes any longer than Monday or Tuesday. Is the House GOP to blame for getting to this point? Absolutely. But the less crazy wing wants out of the box canyon. And I think they may have just found the way. |
Enough will. |
