She's so desperate for attention and affection she might go along regardless. But I'm not convinced it really clicked. |
For us or for Tanya? Because how is the reaction to seeing your husband in a picture in your stranger/host's house when your husband should have NO WAY of knowing your stranger/host to hook up with his hand-picked rentboy/drug/dealer/gun possessor. This is what I think anyone could class as poor decision making. |
I don't think they could have given Tanya that evening if Portia had been there. At least it would have been in jeopardy, because she could have come in and talked to Tanya and said this wasn't good for her. But that doesn't necessarily mean it was nefarious, although they are positioning it to look like it was. But maybe it wasn't! Maybe Greg is just grateful for the extra time he did have, stressed out because he is actually dying (maybe that was why he was so mean earlier, because he wanted to have a nice time too), but mostly trying to do something nice. I can easily see it going the other way -- and I think the characters will figure out that direction and explore it before it's busted. jmho |
Well, he did give her that for a day. He said that he's not good at relationships/marriage generally (he's been married 4 times), and if he's dying he has a lot on his mind probably. |
They pretty clearly showed us a camera in the painting though right? If it's just a crazy fun night not sure why they would need to make a video |
A lot of great playwrights and screenwriters have their most foolish appearing characters say the most truthful things. It’s a narrative tactic that goes back centuries. He’s basically quoting Harvard professor and author Steven Pinker, who is a darling of conservative intellectuals like Jordan Peterson. Disagree with either of them all you want, but they’re not stupid: https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4597457 Would Portia like to live more in the Dark Ages or live through the Black Death? I wouldn’t think so, but a lot of liberals operate out of this absurd notion that the world is at its worst point ever. You don’t even need to look back centuries. Would Portia rather live in the 40s, during WW2 and the Holocaust? It’s absurd to think the world is worse off now than it ever was and this British kid points that out. White has characters like Steve Zahn’s and Connie Briton’s offer the same rebukes to Zoomer woke platitudes in Season 1. It’s one of reasons why the show is so great and has a lot of courage in today’s artistic climate. White isn’t afraid to take on anyone or any idea. |
The preview for next week makes it seem like something definitely happened. |
I think they’re outside and he’s drunk and suddenly says this. He’s talking about Roman ages, nailing people to crosses to fry in the sun, Barbarians, burning witches— how far humans have come. And her she is complaining that the world is ending because of people. |

It was the first scene after he took Portia out with his “uncle’s” car so that his “uncle” could get Tanya high at the party. They’re drinking overlooking a gorgeous seaside town and Portia is ranting about how the world is falling apart and it’s the worst it’s ever been. The British kid, rightly, calls what she’s saying BS and asks her if she’d rather live in the Dark Ages when people were cutting each other to bits and points around and says the world is pretty good right now. And he’s right. Someone like Portia would be dead by 35 and live an utterly depressing life centuries ago. Yet she’s complaining about how much the world sucks while drinking a cocktail in a beach in Sicily. She had utterly no sense of appreciation or historical context, like a lot of woke kids these days. |
Maybe gay guys don’t know Greg exists and is coming around the corner soon? Painting of dagger mad woman illustrates Tanya may not die. |
I would just like to tell you that you are by far the most tedious thing on this thread. And to be clear, when I made the "valuable perspective" comment my intent was to sarcastically mock people that insist upon thrusting their tedious redpill philosophy into every corner or existence. No one even wants to argue with you. They just want you to go away. |
Agree. Btw anyone who works in stats and economics knows current standard of living - iPhones, $$$ shoes, welfare programs, remittances that are huge % of EM countries gdp - is better than ever. Inflation may flatline. |
The painting represents Dido's suicide. She killed herself due to heartbreak after Aeneas abandoned her. |
Np. What on earth is your problem? Having a bad Monday? No one even knows what your political red pill accusations are. Are you one of those highly sensitive, narrow minded young leftists from America? |
