The White Lotus season 2

Very interesting interview with Aubrey Plaza on the Still Watching podcast today.

She says that Harper is not attracted to Cameron at all, he represents pretty much everything she hates, and the more she learns about him the more she dislikes him.

She says that a lot of Harper’s anger at Ethan about the night with Cameron is about how he is behaving so differently with Cameron than he does around her. Like with her he is withdrawn, unadventurous. He won’t even break his routines to have sex with her, he seems so disinterested in her. But with Cameron he’s doing molly and staying up all night? Contrast this with Harper’s night in Noto where, despite taking an edible she remains 100% the same person and is focused on getting home and communicating with Ethan.

Also says she thinks of the show like a 7 hour movie because of how she read the scripts (all at once) and that she is “scared” of the finale.

And are we all still thinking Ethan and Harper have a better marriage?? They admitted they aren’t even attracted to each other. They haven’t even had kids yet.

Anyone think the pimp ends up killing one of the men or Lucia? Albie is crazy to still be hanging out with her after the car chase.

The Tanya thing is so weird. The gays are after her money obviously.

Brit guy is trouble and might end up knocking Portia off since she knows what he does to earn his keep and told her too much about a plan to get $ to save the villa. She’s slowly putting that together.

Could Valentina kill Mia because she is closeted gay and doesn’t want her secret out?

Who knows? I have no idea how they can tie everything up in just one more episode.

There were lots of hints that he was less than ideal but you seemed to pick all the ones that made you seem vaguely prejudice and classist.

Portia willingly had a fling with someone she met on vacation she didn’t know well. And clearly it has soured. I am not surprised but I’m not sure it makes the point you want it to.

I now think the gays are more into blackmail instead of murder. Honestly there were buckets of opportunities to kill her that night. Slip her some bad coke! Push her off a balcony. She was totally hopped up, would have be a piece of cake. So I don’t think he will kill portia but I do think he will keep her away regardless of how much she feels like she’s been kidnapped. I actually liked his speech about this being the best time to be alive.

I don’t think anyone will be murdered, like last season it will be incidental

What if it's not that at all, but Greg asked them to give Tanya the time of her life, knowing that he was going to be dying soon and wanting her to have her dream Italian vacation that he couldn't give her alone.

I kind of like this idea, but I feel like if there was nothing bad going on they wouldn't have gotten rid of Portia

Was there a discussion of their prenup in an earlier episode?

I connected the "cowboy" comment but agree I didn't think his picture looked like him. Yes, they discussed the prenup in Epi 2. Tanya encouraged him to quit his job but he pointed out that if the marriage failed he would be left with nothing per the prenup so felt he still needed to work.

Yeah the photo looked nothing like a younger version of Greg. I assume it is though when Tanya said 'wth' when she picked it up. But, I thought that would be enough to shock me out of a drugged daze if I saw my husband photo's in some gay man's lair.

You guys need to pause the episode and pull up a photo of him on your phone or something. It's his picture...

Agree very clearly a young greg

She was too high for the id to click?

What? It definitely clicked.

She’s processing slowly and then will stop big dik drug agent guy and wreak havoc on the party.

I think it clicked but she isn't going to NOT get with the super hot italian guy. She's also done a ton of coke at that point. Even if it clicked the full ramifications may not sink in until she sobers up. But what it will mean is that she isn't going to be able to be blackmailed by the gays (I think the plan is that they tell her they have incriminating info, she needs to pay them off, and they intend to split the money with Greg). But all these men have underestimated her, Greg still thinks he has her wrapped around his little finger but she has said quite a bit to imply she's already over him. Tanya does what she wants. That's that. All seeing that picture gave her was an advantage on seeing through the leverage they think they have.

How is Greg not back from Colorado? He said two days. It's been at least 2 days.

If you all like Aubrey Plaza, watch Emily the Criminal. It's a good movie, I had to pay a few dollars to rent it on Apple or Prime, but she's a great actress. My husband thinks she plays herself and I'm like no, that's how great of an actress she is, you think in all these roles she's playing herself! She's not Will Farrell.

I agree I think she does see him flirting with her and it just disgusts her further. I think what other people have read as 'flirting back' is more like incredulity that he's giving her eyes in front of Daphne. I see no version of events where they hooked up. But it is telling that in Noto Harper says that Ethan won't cheat on her and is right and even when faced with evidence he did she is skeptical and does seek out his version and I think does believe him although she's angry about the general events that DID happen. In contrast Ethan is faced with this minor moment of her absence and goes full paranoid psycho even though it would be ENTIRELY out of her character to get with Cameron on multiple levels. It just confirms what Harper is already mad about, that Ethan is all about Cameron. He is viewing the entire trip through Cameron's viewpoint not Harper. She is an incidental character in his vacation story. Something she has picked up on but he has not.

I think she might be willing to pay them off to keep Greg from finding out about the hookup. She was really upset about the idea that he might be cheating on her/not in love with her. She is deeply insecure and him leaving her would be a blow. Of course, that assumes that Greg isn't in on it (or that she doesn't figure out he's in on it).

Well that is what I'm saying. I think she could have been vulnerable to this but she was already suspicious of Greg a bit and she did clock that photo IMO. So now she knows, and that will make her less likely to comply. Or, perhaps, she will do what rich lonely women have done many times before and pay them off and go along with it even though she knows in order to keep Greg on her leash.

In the previews they were having a normal-looking breakfast in the morning. So, if she did figure it out, I don't think she wreaked too much havoc

I also saw an interview with the people who play Tanya and Greg and they said they think their characters really do love one another. Just sometimes Tanya is a little too much for Greg. That fits with the whole idea that this is a last gift from Greg before he dies, and maybe Quentin is just inheriting some money from Greg in exchange for showing Tanya a nice time.

It could be that all that's going on with Portia is that this will be her signal to wake up and take control of her life instead of drifting aimlessly, just like Tanya warned her. It doesn't have to be murder and mayhem. She has been such a dud all vacation drifting around not knowing what she wants. If she used her experience with Essex boy to reflect and take control of her life, it would explain her storyline.

Both Harper and Mia wore all white in the dinner scene in the last episode. In a show replete with a lot of Catholic symbolism, this jumped out at me as a sign of innocence or naïveté. Harper wears a lot of white in general (this is her third all white or mostly white outfit), Mia generally dies not though has a kind of angelic appearance.

Yes. A valuable perspective from ... a guy that was in such a desperate situation that he drinks himself into oblivion and became a lover for hire for a gay con man.

I will have trouble with this if true (which I doubt). All Tanya really wants is Greg's love and attention.
