Malaysia Airlines Flight Goes Missing En Route to China

How do you know they haven't? I would hope they did this last week on the DL.

As mentioned up thread, its not an issue of seeing an unknown jet approaching US airspace, it is a question of having the pieces in place to react in a meaningful way when it is spotted. I would hope what ever post 9/11 steps were put in place have been amplified considering there is an aircraft missing.

God you are a moron.

That's good to hear. The ONLY reason why I leaned toward believing the plane went south and crashed was the US's dedication of that new plane to the area on the southern arc. We wouldn't waste that resource unless we REALLY believed the plane went south.

(Note- I'm not the pp who uses CAPS throughout his/her post. Just thought it was appropriate this one time for me.)

Just caught the tail end of former Air Force general on the radio; he thinks the plane is in Pakistan. The part I caught was basically that some people in Boeing think the plane is in Pakistan, and others at Boeing are clamming up. Here's why this is interesting: the general said that hat based on past communications with troubled aircraft in the past--where they knew there was trouble and contacted air traffic control to tell the pilot what to do--that there is a great likelihood that Boeing has a monitoring system and thus knows where every one of their planes are at all times.

I googled and found this article and video. The video is really interesting, and yes, he comments on Israel beefing up security, and the US pulling back from the search in the south, and also references that some people in Boeing think the plane is in Pakistan.

After reading a slate.com article (referenced by a PP a few days ago) that referred to a Reuters article that said (sort of bottom-lining it here) that India probably would not notice this plane, I'm thinking it's not out of the question.

Guess he should call the pentagon and tell them to stop wasting time in the south Indian ocean, where the US and others have been looking since three days after the jet went missing.

Or maybe the US thinks the plane was hijacked and want the bad guys to think we're focusing on the South Indian Ocean so our seals can launch a sneak attack?

NP and I was just going to post this. There has not been significant new information.

If there is intelligence that points to the plane being intact somewhere, there could be good reasons they don't want that public- and would divert attention elsewhere.

Does this take out the northern route scenario? I'm asking because I read about this search area yesterday (the two possible southern routes/lines) and the northern route was still in play. So this article looks like it's further narrowing the southern search area. But I'm unclear if ABC is just reporting that the southern search area is being narrowed, or everything is now pinned on that southern search area.

Who wanted that Washington Post graphic (map)?

Here it is:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/satellite-locates-malaysian-flight-370-still-flying-seven-hours-after-takeoff/2014/03/15/96627a24-ac86-11e3-a06a-e3230a43d6cb_graphic.html

And fyi this map had the two southern lines and search area--yesterday. I think the abc news link isn't actually "news"--that search area was defined before. So I think the northern route is still in play.

Although one good thing about the southern route is it would be better for there to be a broken plane at the bottom of the ocean than an intact one in Pakistan. (of course I'm assuming the passengers are dead in either scenario)
