My sister just tried to stage a parenting intervention with me, basically

most of the overweight kids i know eat "healthy food" but too much of it (obviously). their mothers carry "healthy" snacks at all times.

My child is overweight. We have no idea what causes it. Milk or water only. Very healthy food, rarely eat fast food, plenty of fruits and veggies and no fried food. And if there is a snack its fruit or veggies. On a rare occasion desert but I don't keep snack food inn the house. My child is in 4-6 day a week sports and exercises.

Oh man. We went to my parents lake house and didn’t even bring the iPads. My bad!

Every vacation is different so the amount of junk and screens ends up being a consequence of weather, activities, my need to sit and chat with adults, etc. The concept of a “rule” on this is nonsense. My kids are ages 8-11. No screens until that period before dinner is what worked on our last beach vacation. So about 5-7 every day. One day it rained so they had more.

I would have told my sister to shut the eff up, spilled some wine in her face, and told her that it is not me and my kids that need help, that she is insane, lunatic, etc....
What an obnoxious sister you have and a bully too!
That much is obvious with the part about you sneaking and having your kids eat in a car and your kid "spilling." JHC, tell her to eff the eff off!

I bet your attitude has been judgmental towards her. This may be her finally pushing back on your “oh it’s FINE” attitude.

Here is what you do, you bring Burger King and the ice cream and all the rest to meals! Nonstop, I would go out of my way to pi** her off!
Her poor kids, she is creating all kinds of eating disorders and she thinks she is doing a good job!

So... insane?

But they are super-conservative, southern baptist, judgy Republicans who all live in the same little town. I’m a pot smoking, liberal, Dem. And a witch. And I cuss a little. I’ve had lots of “interventions”. No real advice. Just understanding. Remember, it’s only a few days.

And a witch? You are as nuts as your family.

Say it with a smile.
When she claims "That's not true"
Just keeping smiling and nodding sure, ok, yeah, uh huh,

Yes, so true. Love your comment and advice.

Watching TV movie probably better or all sharing the Ipad.

it is kind of sad to be on an extended family vacation in nature and spend the evenings on a screen. Try to come up with a joint game plan and set screen limits for all.

my kids have definitely had "friends" who preferred to play on their chromebooks or ipads when we visited. It was sad and the former friend would always choose the screen over playing with a friend. sad.

Wow you think watching 30 minute show is sad when they are waiting for dinner to be ready ? A bit over the top dont you think? It is ok to relax on a vacation! Try it and unclench.

Exactly. Ditch your cousins to go play in your iPad every day. Coolio.

Or a half-hour before dinner, Coolio.

Sincerely, Shaggy

But her kids at ages 4 and 6 drink 6-8 sippies of milk per day. And are continuously snacking on Lara bars. Like 3-5 per day. Is a hamburger from burner king really worse?

She sounds like a follower of this guy on youtube, who is not a doctor or anything and thinks Lara bars are awesome healthy snacks and eggs should only be pasture-raised and you should only8 eat pasture raise, organically fed animals... LOL!

You both sound like a$$holes. Her for getting in your business but you for not having better situational awareness and sensitivity to differences in parenting styles.

They drink so much milk bcs they are hungry. Also, too much milk can cause anemia, I know bcs my DD had that. She had insane GERD and would only drink milk from 1 to 3 years old. Ended up malnourished, severely anemic, as in no blood could be drawn. We were in treatment for months. Switched back to formula. The milk she drank was cow milk but super enriched, it made no difference, didn't register. In my defense I would have loved to feed her anything, she just refused all food due to her severe GERD issues.

The kids are 5 and 8. One kid accidentally walked by with fries; they pulled out their iPads before dinner. You actually sound like a$$hole for name-calling children.
