No, but if they are blatantly based on race they will. What happens when 80% of the kids applying from the public MS are Hispanic but 80% are white from that same MS (who happen to have attended private school)? |
| I don’t think the SB will get the mix they hope for. The top 1.5% at the poorer schools May end up being Asian. |
So instead of getting Asian kids from McLean, they will get more Asian kids from Alexandria and Springfield. |
Which might explain why the groups pushing for the merit lottery were so upset about this, and busy saying it would keep all the problems. In 20 years of people griping about diversity at TJ, window dressing changes is all anyone has done. This looks like that to. I personally am not one of the complainers, but for those who are it must be frustrating. |
Which is tied to money and race but nice try! |
You assume more people want to go to TJ than actually do. I can see lots of opt outs happening. |
Isn't McLean seceding? So who cares. |
| Wonder how many of the 39 TJ students who live within the Annandale boundaries went to middle school outside the pyramid and moved there after their kid got into TJ. I heard an enormous amount of griping about how few Glasgow, Holmes, and Poe MS kids get into TJ. |
I'm an Alumni so I know what the experience is like, unlike you, who only listens to 3rd hand information from your children. They are likely too afraid to tell you the truth. Most of us alumni recognize a change needs to occur. It's current parents who do not. It's not even their kids. |
Fellow alumnus here - what's your source for "most?" And to what graduation year do you go back? |
Everything is always about race for some people. They won’t be happy with the new system either. |
The sheer incompetence is mind boggling. FCPS facilties produced a document dated December 7. 2020. Actual numbers projected for Mclean to Langley boundary process. Only took a year... 10 days later we learn there are 342 TJ students that otherwise would be at Langley + Mclean. If 200 would be at the base schools ? December 7 https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/pdf/FINAL_Presentation%20for%20McLean%20Langley%20Dec%207%202020.pdf Not to minimize the real Pearl Harbor but it is just ironic that Dec 7 is the date of that FCPS report. A turning point for the USA and the ultimate example of FCPS top administration and school board incompetence. |

Two questions if anyone knows the answer.
1. So is this based on the child’s base middle school or where they actually attend? 2. Do kids with an IEP have a “leg up”? Will kids with a 504 have a similar leg up? |
It was #4 in 2019. It fluctuates. It will be someone else in 2021, etc... |
