Chances at HYP

Bill Clinton's SAT score was only 1032 and was a Rhodes scholar. George Bush Jr's was only about 200 points higher when he got into Yale. Anyone - anyone - can be President. So, aim high.

Harvard acceptance rate used to be 17%, according to a book that I read.

Well sure all these schools had higher acceptance rates in the past. I graduated from high school in 89 and I believe the most selective schools were in the teens, when my dad went to Princeton and MIL to Stanford I think more in the 30-40% range.

Aim high but be ready to coddle Larla when she doesn’t get in. Have a good back up plan and therapist on hand. No hook, not likely. HPY could fill their incoming class with valedictorians, but they don’t. So what do you think makes the cut? A hook.

No need to be a hitch about it

this is not only needlessly obnoxious but also wrong. Unhooked kids from this area get into HYP (and other equally highly ranked schools) every year. It's simply hard to get in at all.

She should ED at a lower Ivy like Cornell.

This pp is correct. In 1989 Harvard's acceptance rate was 16.1%

exactly. Nobody applied to 17- 20 schools when we were in school, now it's commonplace

The extreme wealth of some of these top schools makes them able to offer generous financial aid packages. Combined with the exponential rise in the cost of college, it makes these schools the most attractive options out there if you can get in.
