I am higher risk and might return. I have a high risk DH who will not return this year. I don’t want gowns or gloves. I would like masks. I’m not sure about face shields. By head coverings do you mean surgical caps or clean room cowls? I don’t think rapid tests will ever be available in sufficient quantities for 5 days a week. Just give us masks and 6 feet distance. Clean the rooms daily. |
HA! Where in the US is anyone doing this and why would it be bestowed first and only upon MCPS employees. You all are so funny. |
But the PP is wrong. Harvard announced that 40% will be on campus and Princeton announced Freshman and Juniors come on campus in Fall and Sophomores and Seniors in Spring. And that can easily be changed as needed. |
If by funny you mean completely off their rockers nutty with some serious unmedicated anxiety thrown in, then yes, they are funny! |
Not PP, but did you read the NYTimes piece from a scientist suggesting that we go full scale into the paper test strips that are super cheap (like $1 a test)? They are not as effective as the saliva tests that take days, but they are good enough and would really minimize spread by asymptomatic folks. For $365/yr per person, everyone could be tested every day. |
Harvard said 40% will LIVE on campus and all classes will be online. |
This is correct—all remote instruction. Only freshmen will report to campus in the fall, and everyone will leave campus before Thanksgiving to do reading and exams remotely. Then freshmen will take classes from their homes in the spring, and Harvard will bring back seniors (and possibly another class, if conditions and state and local guidance allow). They'll consider exemptions for students who can demonstrate that they don't have a stable home environment from which to work remotely. I think they'd also considered exemptions for international students who would find it difficult to return home to take remote classes, but the latest decree from ICE means that, with no on-campus instruction, they'll be forced to leave the US anyway. https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2020/07/harvard-to-bring-up-to-40-of-undergrads-to-campus-this-fall/ |
Agree. I feel like MCPS will be the only district that does all online |
I agree. 7 weeks until school starts and I dont' see how they can prepare for in-person, even if it's just 50%, in that amount of time. |
All the other districts can do it, MCPS can too. |
Because they are already preareing. Fairfax already decided what they will offer (100% DL or 2days/week in school) and have asked parents to commit to one of those options. Meanwhile, MCPS is still in teh general survey stage of things, and next BOE meeting isn't until 7/14. So they can't start implementing any plan until 7/14 or later. On top of that, the MCPS teachers union is undre contract negotiations and those are due end of July. In short, MCPS _can_ do it if they got their act together.. but they won't. |
And yet they somehow manage to come up with technology for DL. Try again! |
Of course they can. They know there will be remote instruction, regardless, so they need to work on that. They also know they need to work on preparing for school. |
Just because MCPS has not formally announced plans does not mean they aren’t preparing. I think it’s reasonable not to announce yet and to wait and see what happens with stats in the area in the next month. |
Well, we have some MCPS teachers on here, who have been back to their classrooms. Have you seen any preparation, like hand sanitizers installed, spacer markings in the hallway, etc? My gut feeling is they aren't actually preparing yet, sadly. I really want school to be open, but I'm not hopeful. |
