St. Albans lax

Strong athletics are simply not a priority at the school.

If your son is a stellar student and a good athlete and prefers the all male environment, look at Landon, GP or Gonzaga.

The belief that you be an exceptional athlete and scholar doesn’t exist at St Albans

Maybe for your son but we know many great athletes from STA that are at Ivies and other top 10 colleges currently. Some recruited athletes and others opted to not go the recruitment route.

St. Albans is now actively recruiting for lacrosse. It’s happening.

What do you mean? This is not good for the school. It will drive away good students.

They need to consider what other schools do and start recruiting middle schoolers, particularly 8th graders that will stay through high school.

Pathetic. God I wish this sport would just go away.

Sorry lady but STA needs all the help it can get.

It once used to have a proud and very strong athletic program across multiple sports.

It is happening. But more often than not st albans will lose the fight over talented kids who are also looking at Prep/Landon/Gonzaga. I suggest that st albans recruitment focus on talent present at Maret, Sidwell and GDS. Before I get laughed out of the forum, there are at least 2 kids in each of these programs that are excellent lacrosse players and could likely start now on st albans. The star FOGO from the last few years came through this route. Soccer has also done this with some measurable success.

Time to go do your homeworK kid. People attend schools like St. Albans to get a great education and be successful in their life. What percentage of students do you think actually are looking to play lacrosse as a career?! None! STA is much more diverse now which means the students have more diverse interests and I’m sorry lacrosse and football might not be the first priority for all students. They only have 80-85 kids in the grade and they need to have a variety of students for all sports. Sorry !

Attitudes like this are why STA is slowly becoming the equivalent to the episcopal version of St. Anselm's. Spending $30 million on the new fields was clearly a waste of money and all the more reason the gym and indoor facilities will never get refurbished.

Oh yes, no one else in private school (or public for that matter) in the DMV is going to school “to get a great education and be successful in their life”, only STA boys do. Did you all hear that people? Seriously? That statement is ignorant, uneducated, and embarrassing for the STA community to be associated with. It is the very reason so many people have a problem with the narcissistic and self proclaimed elitism that comes out of STA. Go take a cold shower and get over yourself. When your done we can have a real talk about how smart, academically successful and highly motivated boys (and girls) can play sports and be super star athletes also. Many kids can successfully multitask (and even play helmet sports), sorry if yours can’t. But please do the world (and STA) a favor and get over yourself.

Every lacrosse program in IAC sends kids to top schools to both play lacrosse and excel in education....you can do both....kids prove it every year across the League. Get over yourself STA.

I'm an STA parent and I also agree those non-lacrosse STA parents sound terrible. I am not sure why they are even following this thread if their kid doesn't play since this is a forum for lacrosse supporters. Of course our family knows that bright, athletic boys can get a great education at many other schools that also happen to excel in lacrosse. Our multi-sport kid is at STA for many reasons, none of which include us choosing it because we think it's an "elite" education that's better than any other school. It's encouraging to us to hear that STA is interested in improving its lacrosse program since our son really likes the sport. I have no reason to think that this program growing (if it does) would or should negatively affect the other boys at the school or the school's diversity of students and programming. STA is FULL of different opportunities. There is an outlet for every type of student there. And overall the parents and families are really nice and normal, even though that doesn't always come across here on this anonymous, snarky forum.

What makes you think poster is not a lax parent? You can be a lax parent and not expect STA to devote their admissions to recruiting lax players.
