Yes, STA is the strongest but Prep is right behind it and very similar. I would say STA and Prep are the same at the top and middle, but it’s the bottom group at Prep that might have a wider range than STA. Landon is one tier below. STA and Prep are also very sought-after and have fairly low acceptance rates. Landon is popular, but not at the same level as STA and Prep. Landon has been known to still have spots available in certain grades in the summer months, hence the emails they send out announcing they have availability and trying to recruit boys for these open spots.

Not Familiar with the e-mails this prior poster is talking about.

Prep graduated an awful lot. They have an excellent face off guy, unless he left. They have the defenseman going to Navy and the LSM who can go where ever he wants that really thinks lacrosse is important.

Other than those three, who do they have that is going to replace those big midfielders they had last year, one of whom went to ND.

Landon will be very good at the back end. The games, as usual, will be much more competitive than the Prep Dads think in the Fall.

I have always thought STA had the stronger academic persona amongst the IAC schools.

I have also always been under the belief Landon and Prep are very similar when it comes to academic reputation - one happens to be Catholic, the other is not.

Not trying to start a pissing match either.

STA average SAT score is 1410
Prep average SAT score is 1386
Landon average SAT score is 1320

Prep faculty with advanced degrees 85%
STA faculty with advanced degrees 80%
Landon faculty with advanced degrees 70%

Prep ranked #1 for lowest acceptance rate for private schools in Maryland.

41% of Prep’s 2021 class attended top 40 USNWR national universities.
33% of Landon’s 2021 class….

Facts are facts.

Don't know the accuracy of Niche.com but it Puts Prep's SAT at 1350 and Landon's at 1340. Not that great a difference if Niche.com is accurate.

Prep's 1350 to Landon's 1340 to St. Albans 1410 means Prep and Landon are a lot closer than Prep and St. Albans.

I guess that 10 points really means a lot to the Prep Fan Base. A way for them to think they are head and shoulders above, when they simply are not, very similar but Catholic.

When they simply are not; Landon and Prep are very similar, but Prep is Catholic.

100%. If your kid is good enough, HS makes no difference. Wherever your kid attends HS, make sure he/she gets great grades. That’s the only thing that matters.

This line is so old and tired. Oh, and so untrue. Please come up with new material.

So Prep no longer takes a bunch of kids from MD, that is a bit surprising.

Boy, the haters are out in full force tonight. Niche.com is incorrect. The pp’s numbers came directly from the schools’ in questions websites. You can’t trust random websites, as there is another one out there that claims Prep average SAT is 1400. The original numbers are correct, as well as the other data.

Funny how SJC becomes the dominant lacrosse power and all the Prep/Landon and STA parents are freaking out about grades and test scores that schools no longer use for admissions.

Colleges no longer care about grades and test scores? A SJC parent would say that. It’s the IAC, parents care above these things.

Let's pump the breaks just a bit.

One excellent season last Spring doesn't equate to being a dominant power. Lets see how the Cadets fair over the next 3 seasons before we crown them the new Sherrif in town.

I don't think Gonzaga admin is just going to roll over and allow SJC to rein supreme in the WCAC.

I agree with your assessment.

This thread has gotten so silly. I will just point out the obvious: Yorktown has better lacrosse than SJC and better academics than STA, all covered by the taxpayer, not granddaddy’s checkbook.

the yorktown jokes have become very old on all of these threads.

Will the nerds leave the room, please? Got it...everyone thinks there school is the best academically. Awesome for you.

If your kid can play, he can just about go to any school he wants, full stop.

Anonymous wrote:Being familiar with both Prep and STA, I would think the academic top 10-15% of each school would match up well with each other. What does appear to be true, however, is that STA has done significantly better in Ivy League, and its equivalent, college admissions. And I don't think the reason is solely because Prep families prefer Notre Dame and Georgetown.

I would agree with this. The top 10% are very similar at both schools. However, the bottom 75% or so at STA are much stronger than the bottom 75% at Prep. There are few to no kids at STA that aren't very academic kids. The college admissions also reflect this--the top 10 or so are similar but the bottom 75% admits at STA are much stronger than the bottom 75% at Prep.

It’s not the bottom 75%, that’s a gross exaggeration. These schools are far more similar academically and in regards to student intelligence and drive than some would like to admit. I would say the bottom 25% at Prep is less academically inclined than the bottom 25% at STA. Other than that their student bodies are rather similar in regards to intelligence, academic interest, focus, and drive

I'll give STA its due for academics, but to claim Prep is in the same league and better than Landon is simply not true. The top 10-15 % of kids at all three schools are likely similar. The depth of great students at STA is simply greater than at Landon or Prep. I believe Landon is a better academic school than Prep overall, but I will accept that they are equal for the sake of the previous poster.

Sorry, but this is incorrect. Prep is superior academically to Landon. It is closer to STA academically. Kids who can't handle STA's academics transfer to Landon, Bullis, and St. Andrews. They don't go to Prep because it is fairly equal in academic rigor.

Sorry to you. You are full of shit.

Lovely language, shows your true character. Maybe if you went to a academically stronger school or truly understood what that looked like then you would have a greater vocabulary to draw from in order to express yourself more appropriately. STA and Prep are far more similar than Landon academically. The only thing Landon and Prep have in common is that they are both stronger athletically than STA. Facts, they're important.

So 10 pts, huh? That is your fact? The fact is you are clearly a jackass.
