It’s how gaunt she is that’s the issue. It makes her look brittle and frankly older (not that I believe getting older is a bad thing). She’s also 11 years older than Reese and 4 years older than Jennifer so. Julianna is 58

I get what people are saying but like how she looks. It's just a different look, more angular and severe. Not everyone has to be all soft focus and warm colors. I think JM's appearance and coloring really suits her character on this show and provides a nice contrast with Bradley's character. I look forward to her scenes.

I love Jon Hamm generally but he didn't do much for me in the first two episodes. He's playing this role a little more tough guy and with less humor -- definitely feels distinct from both Don Draper and the more recent comedic roles he's played. But I'm curious to see where it goes especially with the past link to Stella.

Speaking of Stella, I hope we get her character rounded out a bit this season. Looks likely. It's shallow but I love her look and her style on the show. One thing I like about the show is how stylish many of the women are, and not just in that TV news way (like Alex and Bradley). Stella, Laura, and Mia are all versions of very stylish, well-off, powerful NY media women and I love their clothes.

I am very glad to be done with Mitch. I think moving the show forward totally past Mitch and past Covid will be refreshing. I was still hooked last season but it was weird and didn't always work. I think they are back in their groove now.

I loved the Tig Notaro sighting and hope she comes back. This show manages to cast the most randomly delightful people sometimes. Tig, Mark Duplass, Greta Lee. It's kind of a silly show with really high production values and then the casting always feels like a weird stunt but I love it.

Tig is great. A few years ago she had her own show, can't remember where-maybe HBO. it was slow to get into but really sweet and funny. I love her cast in this role with Jon Hamm since you would expect her would only hire hot young women as his "assistants"

Her show was "One Mississippi" and I loved it too. I was hoping she'd be somewhat funny in this role (in her dry, sardonic way), but so far she's not funny at all.

I am still holding out hope that Notaro and Hamm will get a chance to be funny together, as I could see each of their comedic styles playing off each other well. But yeah, so far they've been playing it really straight.

One Mississippi! Yes, great, sad show - RIP.

I think it's so funny that she's in this teeny tiny role. It's like how Shari Belafonte is in a role with barely any lines. This cast is just so jam packed with talent that you can get these actors and then barely do anything with them in these minor roles!

Except Shari has done a lot of TV work sort of like this (smaller roles or short featured roles, but not main cast) for many years. So that makes more sense to me.

But yes, they like to throw people like Tig, Will Arnett, James Urbaniak into these bit roles so you can go "Hey, it's so-and-so!" I do think there's still some chance Tig will get more to do just because they are obviously building up to a big payoff with with Hamm's character and it would make sense of Tim was a part of that. Though not necessarily in a featured way, based on how they've used similar actors in the past.

That said, I’m still going to watch.

What was that scene?!? Alex and her constand, "Oh my GOD!! Oh my GOD!!!" I mean, I get that she was startled, but she so overacted in that scene. Bizarre. I like Jennifer Aniston, but get very tired of her constant verbal tics: sighing, mm-hmmming, addressing everyone as "honey" like she did in Friends, etc. It's beyond old.

You do realize what she says on screen is what is written and she has to say it?

No, I didn't realize that at all! OMG, thank you so much for enlightening me.

Point being if she just stood there saying OMG it would be boring. She had to act something out saying it so many times. I do agree, it was scripted too many times. But I think the last OMG was “OMG, I’m gonna have to clean (sterilize) that desk, maybe the whole apartment.”

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is that one employee (camerawoman? assistant? producer?) SHARI BELAFONTE?? The one with the buzzed blonde hair? I knew she looked familiar, but didn't think too much of it. I can't believe what a tiny role she has! I think she's only spoken maybe once? Mind blown.

I actually think a lot of that is just ad-libbed. I can't imagine it being scripted like that - "Ok, you're going to say 'OMG' ten times, no more no less!" She's probably just given a basic idea of what she needs to say and then she can run with it. So she needs to up her game in that department.

You might be surprised. A scene like that is scripted with beats and blocking, especially since the move from the entry, down the hall, into the kitchen. They have to set up for shooting it and know where everyone is going to be in each beat and also be able to set up multiple shots in order to grab reactions. They likely rehearsed the scene at least once to make sure it worked and they might have tweaked it at that point, perhaps adding an "oh my god" or taking one out, or tweaking a line. But the way a show like this is shot, it's not designed for ad-libbing. Especially not in a scene with that much movement.

Greta Lee is a great actress, have loved her in other things. But agree, not feeling her here.

I would like to see Tig and Stella in scenes together!

Anonymous wrote:What episode is this scene you all are taking about with JA, Chip and her assistant?

In the last episode, when Alex asks Chip and her assistant to go to her home studio and retrieve her device for the hack, and then she comes home and finds them en flagrante. And then they tell her it's been going on for a while but they didn't know how to tell her.

I actually thought the scene was funny because its as very much about how Alex has Main Character Syndrome and once she's over her initial shock, she's like "let's all go out together to celebrate! this is so great! how can I be involved!" and there's some great subtle face acting from Duplass and the actress playing the assistant where Chip is almost ready to agree because he has a grossly codependent relationship with Alex, but the assistant is like "haha, no."

I love Mark Duplass in that role so that sells a lot of the show for me. He is so, so good at playing this guy who is likable and loyal but also entirely careerist with almost no actual morals. To me the show is very much about how these people can say all they want about "journalism" or even entertainment but at the end of the day, they are entirely in it for themselves and their own egos. It rings extremely true to me.

What happened to Chip’s fiancé?

It’s not directly addressed. But I think she left after he slipped out during JA’s Covid and pretended he had Covid to help JA get well and film from home
Remember she called during the time he was setting up the camera in JA apartment and he declined the call and cursed- he must have lied to the fiancé about where he was going or else just left.

Chip might actually be the most ruthlessly careerist person on the show, which is kind of funny because he has so little power -- he's entirely beholden to the whims of both on-air talent and the big egos in the c-suite. I find is character very amusing if not really at all likable.
