It’s overly dramatic—-especially the scene with Alex, Chip and her assistant. Also, I cannot get over how Jennifer Aniston’s face looks. That said, I’m still going to watch.
+1 What was that scene?!? Alex and her constand, "Oh my GOD!! Oh my GOD!!!" I mean, I get that she was startled, but she so overacted in that scene. Bizarre. I like Jennifer Aniston, but get very tired of her constant verbal tics: sighing, mm-hmmming, addressing everyone as "honey" like she did in Friends, etc. It's beyond old.
You do realize what she says on screen is what is written and she has to say it?
No, I didn't realize that at all! OMG, thank you so much for enlightening me.
Point being if she just stood there saying OMG it would be boring. She had to act something out saying it so many times. I do agree, it was scripted too many times. But I think the last OMG was “OMG, I’m gonna have to clean (sterilize) that desk, maybe the whole apartment.”
I actually think a lot of that is just ad-libbed. I can't imagine it being scripted like that - "Ok, you're going to say 'OMG' ten times, no more no less!" She's probably just given a basic idea of what she needs to say and then she can run with it. So she needs to up her game in that department.
You might be surprised. A scene like that is scripted with beats and blocking, especially since the move from the entry, down the hall, into the kitchen. They have to set up for shooting it and know where everyone is going to be in each beat and also be able to set up multiple shots in order to grab reactions. They likely rehearsed the scene at least once to make sure it worked and they might have tweaked it at that point, perhaps adding an "oh my god" or taking one out, or tweaking a line. But the way a show like this is shot, it's not designed for ad-libbing. Especially not in a scene with that much movement.
