Stores in DC know better than to leave expensive things unsecured. |
Have you been to the Apple Store @ Carnegie library? This scenario could easily play out the same way there. |
Yes, of course it does..it also causes stress and horror (at times) to law-abiding residents. And raises insurance premiums. But it is the DC philosophy of someone else's money, like our federal handouts I guess? |
Do you even drive? If I'm on the highway and these a**holes are riding along, do you think that's safe? It's bad enough when you're late for work, right? But eventually someone is going to get killed or become so irate that s/he becomes a murderer. |
Don't let the space shuttle hatch hit you on your way out. |
Motor vehicles have to have a licensed driver and a vehicle registration by law. Vehicles have to pass safety inspections, and have fully functioning set of safety equipment. Dirt bikes have literally none of this, and are not permitted in the public domain. Why couldn't you inform yourself? They are not legal bc they do not conform to the safety requirements for vehicles on a public street. Period. From a NYT article: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2018/07/25/nyregion/dirt-bikes-bike-life-ride.amp.html Riding a dirt bike is illegal in most cities, and on most public roads, because the bikes don’t have standard safety equipment like headlights and turn signals. On top of that, neighbors complain that the noisy bikes are a dangerous nuisance |
Seriously. I have been on the beltway with a group of motorcycle/motorbike/4 wheeler riders. They zipped in between and around cars in the direction of traffic and then turned around and did the same thing against traffic. Cars had to swerve around them and/or slam on their brakes. Bs to “they aren’t hurting anyone.” I feel bad for the drivers who will inadvertently hit these idiots some day. |
Require dirt bikes to have a licensed driver, vehicle registration, turn signals, and headlights. Incidentally, DC does not require safety inspections for motorcycles or mopeds. Maryland does not require safety inspections for mopeds. |
Mainly what terrifies me while I'm driving my car on the Beltway is other car drivers. |
Imagine those drivers along with the addition of 20 or so dirt bikes speeding head on towards you on the beltway. Good times. |
No question. But that's a rare event, whereas the scary drivers are there 24/7/365. |
The beltway doesn't have drivers equivalent to what these bikes are doing 24/7/365. I spend many hours on the beltway. You're exaggerating to prove a point but most of the time it's too jam packed for a car to do anything close to what these bikes are doing. Cool story though. |
Thank you! +1 You responded to me. |
Really? They're there all the time? I've driven on the Beltway and 270 many many times, and I've encountered a reckless group of motorcycle drivers once. Well, maybe twice, if you count a group on their way to Rolling Thunder. |
